Where to stay in La Rioja
Logroño
Logroño is the base: the old town and Calle Laurel, with its pintxo bars, are easy to explore on foot. Most of the wineries of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa are a short drive from the city.
Haro and the wine route
Haro has the Barrio de la Estación, home to several century-old wineries. Briones, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Ezcaray have boutique hotels. Winery visits need booking and, if you are drinking, plan your transport carefully.
Monasteries and mountains
San Millán de la Cogolla, with the Yuso and Suso monasteries, and Santo Domingo de la Calzada, on the Camino de Santiago, are the main historic sights. The Sierra de la Demanda and the Valdezcaray ski station complete the mountain side of the region.
