  Liked: A disappointing return - I checked out two nights early I enjoyed Belle Plage two years ago. After staying elsewhere last year, I returned, booking and paying in full in March, over six months ahead. Sadly, this visit ruined those good memories. Problems began before arrival: the hotel tried to apply booking restrictions after already approving a reservation change. They eventually honoured the agreement, but only after unnecessary back-and-forth. The hotel felt noticeably worn and poorly maintained. My room, next to the lift, had extensive peeling paint on the bathroom ceiling and a sink that drained so slowly it filled up with the tap running. I cannot confirm whether mould was present, but even without it, these conditions are unacceptable for a five-star hotel. Despite booking months ahead, I felt I had been given whatever was left—the kind of room you immediately want to leave. Limited availability might explain a poor allocation, but never poor maintenance. Such rooms should not be sold until the defects are fixed. I expected no special treatment, just a properly maintained room. A colleague in a more expensive room also had plumbing problems. This was embarrassing: he had left a better hotel on my recommendation. Management offered accommodation in a separate building that did not suit my needs, or an upgrade for my final night. I appreciated the efforts, but neither resolved the situation that day. I checked out two nights early and spent an additional $1,800 to return to last year’s hotel - the same one my colleague had left on my advice. Instead of refunding the unused nights, Belle Plage offered a €963.14 voucher. At the time of writing, it still has not arrived despite my follow-up. I returned with high hopes and even recommended the hotel to someone else. I left disappointed, out of pocket, and with no desire to return.

  Liked: A lovely hotel with a beautiful roof terrace. Being picky, I didn't like having to pay for coffee with my included breakfast - that felt a bit cheap. But otherwise excellent.

  Liked: The staff were amazing and gave us lots of great suggestions each evening for dining. The rooftop restaurant was a nice addition with a beautiful view. The location was very convenient for all we wanted to do while in Cannes.
