Rural hotel, country house or inn
A rural hotel offers hotel service (reception, breakfast, daily cleaning) in a traditional building in the countryside or a small village. A casa rural, or country house, can be rented whole or by the room and often has a kitchen. Masías, cortijos, pazos, caseríos and quintas are the regional names for farmhouses turned into places to stay.
What to check before booking
You almost always need a car: check the distance to the nearest village with shops and restaurants. Make sure there is heating or a fireplace in winter, whether dinner is served and whether pets are allowed, which is common in rural tourism. In high season some houses are only let for a full weekend or by the week.
