Disliked: This guest room absolutely cannot be recommended! It is a single room that has no window at all or a door, which could be left open, as the front door of the room goes directly to the street. You don't have to suffer from claustrophobia to have an unpleasant feeling in this guest room, with no natural light and no fresh air. The room is damp and smells bad of sewer. From the room there is a staircase to a cellar, which is only separated from it by a grid. From the basement you can constantly hear a buzzing sound from a machine. The bathroom with a shower and a sink includes also the toilet and is extremely small (smaller than 2 square metres) and therefore unreasonable for two people. In the middle of the night, the CO2-alarm was triggered, so I left the room and spent the rest of the night in my car. After this terrible experience I left the guest room early in the morning. Although the landlord granted a refund of the money at least for the 2nd night I had booked this never happened despite several urgencies. Unfortunately I did not read the negative reviews before I booked this guest room, because this bad conditions of this guest room were already reported quite some time ago and nothing has been changed since then.

Liked: Antônio was so nice. He set everything for my arrival with a great welcome gift and beverage, the place is in the heart of this beautiful city I was like a local, the house has pretty much everything we can need.

Disliked: The only thing I didn't like was to leave this fantastic place. 😍

Jumpscared by creepy dungeon behind locked gate

Disliked: As a young, female, solo traveler, I would NOT recommend Dimora Chiantera. The pics are very misleading. The pics looks like there’s a small railing next to a cute, open arch in the room. In reality, there’s a creepy, locked gate covering the whole arch and stairs behind the gate that you can’t see to the bottom of. It literally looks like a dungeon. That gate is right across from the bed in the middle of the room, so it should have been in the pics. When I messaged the host, he called it a “chamber cave” and offered to give me a tour the next morning – after I would’ve had to sleep in the room with it. I decided to stay somewhere else instead. The host asked me where else I would stay and told me everywhere was closed. The next day, he told me that the cave room is open for guests who pay extra. This page doesn’t mention a “cave chamber”, a locked room, or any added fee. When I booked the place, the host asked me to meet with his daughter who had qs about the US. I turned him down. When I checked in, he opened the door remotely for me. I’m not sure what the door mechanism was, but it was really unsettling that he was able to open the door remotely after I turned down meeting with him and that he asked me where I was staying after I left. The lock on the front door to the apartment is also broken. I locked myself in while testing the lock (before I decided not to stay), and I later almost couldn’t relock the door from the outside. There was a private security car parked for hours right outside the front door. The host told me that that was normal, but nearby hotel hosts told me that private security was usually hired after recent incidents. When I reached out to the host, he told me that other single women had stayed there without any problems and blamed me for not checking in in-person. It was frustrating for him to mention (unprompted) that I was a solo female traveler while showing little regard for why women traveling alone would be creeped out.

perfectly sized and decorated for a short stay, with delicious coffee

Liked: Was perfectly situated as was visiting last minute for a wedding, was close to everything I needed and very easy to get to the train station and other parts of the town.

Disliked: I mean not a negative in the slightest as it's very transparant that it's a room with a bed and bathroom - but might be a bit small for longer stays. Some building work taking place around, but I wasn't there to sit in the room.

I love this place. It felt like the real Italy. Thank you Antonio!

Liked: The host, Antonio just cannot do enough for you. Brilliant coffee on arrival and recommended restaurants, things to do. The apartment is lovely, super location and really in keeping with the area. Spotlessly clean.
