Exceptional
A beautiful villa with stunning gardens, olive trees and breathtaking views. A peaceful, charming pl
Liked: combination of its beautiful traditional Italian character, peaceful surroundings and stunning outdoor spaces.
Disliked: I would have preferred a room with a more of a view
A charming and authentic Tuscan stay with beautiful gardens and views
Liked: A truly authentic Tuscan experience. Villa Rucellai is not just a place to stay, but a place with soul and history. From the beautiful garden and the peaceful surroundings to the wonderful views, everything captures the charm and atmosphere of the Tuscan countryside. The breakfast was well above Italy’s average, having plenty of choices.
Disliked: For a stay in mid-October, we found the room quite cold. A warmer room temperature or better heating would have made the experience much more enjoyable.
An amazing villa
Liked: If you want a stay where you are immersed in local history, in a beautiful building with stunning gardens look no further. If you need super fast WiFi, air con etc maybe not for you.
Disliked: Absolute nothing. Glad to go back
Beautiful property with amazing history. Staff need to be more present and interact with guess more due to remote locati
Liked: The villa had been frozen in time which was an amazing experience. Sitting in the garden having a bottle of wine at sunset
Disliked: There was no hot water in our room. Staff not available after check in for general information such as restaurant recommendations etc
Beautiful setting, but major comfort issues
Liked: Villa Rucellai is without a doubt a very special place. The historic country house has a huge amount of character and almost feels like a small open-air museum. You can tell that the property has been passed down through the same family for generations. It is a little worn in places and certainly not perfect, but in this case that actually adds to its charm. It reminded me somewhat of the atmosphere of the movie ‘A Good Year’ but in Italy. Breakfast is also very well arranged, with plenty of good products served in a beautiful and atmospheric setting. Giovanni is a kind and welcoming host who is happy to help and provide tips about the surrounding area.
Disliked: Unfortunately, there are two serious issues that I think future guests should be aware of, and they affected our stay so much that we cannot give more than 3 out of 10 points. The biggest problem was the lack of sleep. For us, being able to get a reasonable night’s rest is one of the most basic expectations of any accommodation. We are not light sleepers at all and normally sleep through almost anything. We stayed in room 5 and slept extremely poorly on both nights. Roughly every half hour, a loud mechanical noise would start and continue for around five minutes. It sounded almost as if someone was vacuuming or operating machinery directly around the walls of our room. This happened repeatedly throughout the night. After the first night, we politely reported the problem. Nobody seemed to know exactly where the sound was coming from, although a water pump was mentioned as a possible cause. Unfortunately, nothing changed on the second night and the exact same noise continued. Once again, we were woken up approximately every half hour. This was not a minor background noise or something we personally found slightly annoying; it genuinely made it extremely difficult to sleep. I therefore think anyone considering room 5 should be aware of this until the issue has been investigated and resolved. The rooms are also very poorly soundproofed. When the guest in the neighbouring room watched television around midnight, we could hear it very clearly from our room. The second major problem was the shower. It is explained that during the summer season the boiler is switched off and that, for environmental reasons, hot water is provided through an electric heating system. That sounds perfectly reasonable in principle, but in practice we had barely any warm water. On several occasions the shower was essentially cold. Again, this is something I believe prospective guests should know beforehand.
