  Liked: We enjoyed our stay at Maison Michelle very much. The apartment was clean, nicely furnished, and had a stunning view from the terrace. We especially appreciated the guidance and assistance from Rosella, who was always available via WhatsApp. The location of San Bernardino is truly unique—peaceful and full of authentic charm, just what we were looking for. We enjoyed the walking trail to Vernazza (about 40 minutes). Parking wasn’t easy during the high season, but we used the train and a bus to reach San Bernardino from Vernazza.

  Even the location could not dim the beauty of these coastal towns, but it was a difficult stay

  Liked: The flat was clean, comfortable and had coffee for the next morning. Nice terrace with views of Corniglia, not Vernazza. Large tv and comfy sofa, along with nice, large dining table. The flat is very very nice and comfortable. The towns themselves, once we got to them using the efficient train system, are lovely.

  Disliked: CHECK LOCATION! The location was unexpected. The photos and description on Booking makes it appear that this flat is up the hill.9 mi from the town of Vernazza. In fact it is not walkable at all, it is in San Bernardino in the “province” of Venazza, and the “parking” mentioned is in a church lot many, many levels down. The video sent to us right before we arrived showed the climb we needed to make to arrive at the flat. It was necessary for us to partially empty our luggage and carry things up separately (in fact we witnessed a huge argument between local workers as to HOW best to transport their materials up!) Getting to town was achieved by parking at a lot for $20 and taking a van to town. This was more adventure than three 70-somethings expected. We were not able to walk between towns, go back for a rest, swim, buy groceries or have a drink in the village at night because of the isolation. Also, the narrow ladder-like stairs made us leave our suitcases in the living room/kitchen and carry necessities up. We are very fit and active, planned to hike between towns, but were not able to do much.

  Disliked: We stayed with our family, four kids. We did not have the sofa bed made, had to look around in upstairs closets to find sheets, pillows and blankets (no instructions left). Stairs to second floor (where rooms and bathroom are) are very steep, almost like a ladder, would not recommend especially with young kids. Apartment was clean but smelled dusty. Our biggest complaint is that the water in the shower was unregulated and the shower very old. My daughter turned on the water and closed doors of the shower while getting ready to come in. The shower head suddenly broke and a strong jet of water hit the doors, pushed them open and hit my daughter at the back of her head. Problem was that the water was boiling hot and she got a burn at the back of her head. We were sitting outside enjoying the view and the quiet night when we suddenly heard screaming from inside, we run up the steep stairs to find our daughter in pain and had hard time closing the water because it was burning hot and hurt our hands. My daughter was hysterically crying and shaking and her scalp was burning red and painful. It was sensitive and peeling for almost two weeks. When we called property about this, the property manager was sent. He did not apologise, just said this has never happened and that we should have set the water on cold and warm up gradually, no empathy just a feeling of blame. My daughter set the water to the center, it shouldn’t have been so boiling hot. Property took no responsibility at all. It was a traumatic experience for our entire family. Needless to say, none of us wanted to shower afterwards,. Thankfully we only stayed for one night.
