Where to stay in Navarre
Pamplona
Pamplona has its old town, with streets full of pintxo bars, and the newer Ensanche district, with larger hotels. During San Fermín, from 6 to 14 July, prices soar and you need to book many months ahead.
The Navarrese Pyrenees
The Baztan, Roncal and Salazar valleys and the Irati forest have villages of stone houses and rural places to stay. Roncesvalles is where the French Way of the Camino de Santiago begins in Spain.
La Ribera and Olite
To the south, Olite and its royal palace, Tudela and the Bardenas Reales, a semi-desert landscape, are best explored by car. It is wine and market-garden country, with small hotels and the odd winery offering rooms.
