Old Town

The Old Town, or Alde Zaharra, is the pintxo bar district par excellence. Streets such as Estafeta, San Nicolás and Calle Mayor fill up every evening, and among them are the town hall, Santa María cathedral and the walls overlooking the Arga river. Everything is walkable and many streets are pedestrianised.

It is the choice for those who want atmosphere and a pintxo crawl every night. During San Fermín it becomes very noisy and crowded, so think twice if you want rest during those days.

Best-rated in this area: Pamplona Catedral Hotel, with a score of 8.8 from 8,736 reviews.

Plaza del Castillo and the First Ensanche

Plaza del Castillo is the hinge between the old town and the modern city. To the south, the First Ensanche has straight streets and grand buildings, with shops and historic cafés nearby. You are two steps from the pintxos, but the nights are a little calmer. It works well for a first stay in the city.

Best-rated in this area: Pamplona Catedral Hotel, with a score of 8.8 from 8,736 reviews.

Second Ensanche and the Citadel

Around Avenida Carlos III and Calle Amaya spreads the Second Ensanche, a shopping and residential area. To the west is the Citadel, a star-shaped fortress surrounded by parks, and next to it the Baluarte conference centre and the bus station. A convenient area for business trips, conferences and families who appreciate green space nearby.

Best-rated in this area: Hostal Arriazu, with a score of 8.6 from 5,288 reviews.

San Juan and Iturrama

South and west of the Citadel, the San Juan and Iturrama districts are residential and quiet, with wide streets and street parking. They are close to the University of Navarra campus and the hospital area, so they suit study trips, medical appointments or long stays. You can walk to the old town or take the villavesa, as Pamplona's city bus is called.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel MET Pamplona, with a score of 10.0 from 4,923 reviews.
