  Perfect place if location is your priority

  Liked: Very good location, very friendly and accommodating staff.

  Disliked: Very noisy, we could hear every step on the stairs, every conversation of our neighbours… Didn’t mind the noise of the streets, that was expected due to its location.

  One last indulgence before the Camino!

  Liked: Ok, I was working my way down to Irun from Paris for what I will call a "survey course" of the Camino Norte because I only had two weeks for the pilgrimage and not five. My initial plan had been to go Paris to Bayonne and pass through Biarritz but after an unnecessary (and disappointing) stay in Dax the Spirit put me right back on the train when I saw a lot of sundry folk outside the Bahnhof in Bayonne. Well, the Spirit or the spirits (Campari?) did me right and I enjoyed a very nice midday stroll along the strand in Biarritz and needed to find a room on the quick. Availability wasn't great but I wasn't in the mood for being closer to the road out than the centre of town so I bit the bullet and booked the St. James which was probably €10 more per night than I wanted to spend but it was proximate to the beach and what Irishman isn't hooked by the name St. James! Or better, yer what 'pellegrino' isn't hoked by the name St. James on their way to Santiago. Anyway, I booked the St. James, had a great burger and beer at the restaurant downstairs then was checked in by my accommodating hosts. The bed was very comfy, the decor was soothing and the room was very quiet. The shower was nice and warm though as I note below there was no shower curtain in me and my inner landlord wanted to scream. Anyway, thank you HSJ. Buen Camino!

  It is a lovely old hotel and lovely place to stay

  Liked: The location was in the old part of the city and central to everything.

  Hot, noisy, centrally located for market & nightlife, poor value for money

  Liked: Location could not be more convenient for the market, bars & restaurants & easy walk to the beaches

  Disliked: Simply too expensive for what it is - you definitely pay for location (and in our case, the summer season) but as other reviewers mentioned it is so noisy outside - not just people outside chatting and socialising but being very inconsiderately noisy - singing, shouting, revving engines until beyond 2am. And the room was so so hot - the fan provided is insufficient to help. Room itself was ok, a bit tired, very basic, but beds were comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was good. Great if you want to party all night, not so great if you want any sleep or value for money. Ours was not a room or experience you’d expect to have to pay nearly 200 euro a night for.

Good to know

The Saint James Hotel is located in the city centre of biarritz which can be noisy.

This property doesn't have a lift only stairs up to 3 floors. For the PMR, please contact the property in advance to arrange the location of your room.

On the 3rd floor, the rooms are under the eaves and can be an issue for the people above a certain size.

The hotel doesn't have a car park.
