Guest reviews
Very good
Liked: Comfy bed.
Disliked: Shabby room, stained sheet, stressy man on the desk. There was no correspondence in reply to a request after my stay.
Well positioned in the town centre
Liked: Very easy to find from the railway station. The distance is even shorter than it appears on the map. Cross over the canal; walk by the end of Square Andre Chenier (and the Carcassonne sign) and down the street with (closed) Rotunda restaurant on your left. Liberte Street is around second on your right (the sign is on the wall but behind you at this point). Warm welcome from the lady on reception (who works a long shift) and an efficient check in. Gave us relevant info and a map. Our room was on the fourth floor. There’s a lift. Enough for two people. Nicely furnished. The bed was comfortable but pillows could have been better. One (better) spare pillow in in the closet. Coffee machine/kettle with supplies was appreciated (they were replenished). TV doesn’t have any English language or music channels. We just used it for a bit of background noise. Wifi was good. The bathroom was across a vestibule (in the room). Quite a big size. Check the sign on the wall about towel changes. Toiletries provided (and replenished). Shower was decent with hot water and ok pressure. The wall mounted hairdryer only works if you switch the over mirror light on. There’s a second hairdryer in the drawer below the sink. The toilet is not in the bathroom. It’s in the bedroom but had no handwashing facilities. Not a fan of this arrangement personally. It also felt a bit like a room of doors - into the loo, into the closet, into the vestibule, into the bathroom. And another door directly outside the room door to get to the lift/stairs. We chose breakfast on one day of our stay. It’s a continental buffet and worth the €11 imo. Plenty of choice to set you up for the day. We would stay here again.
Disliked: Nothing that merits inclusion here.
Good budget accommodation
Liked: 1. Pleasant, efficient and helpful reception staff, English speaking, immediately provided me with a map and good orientation to the city. 2. Nice budget accommodation - the hotel is old, but has all essential amenities: comfortable bed, good heating, a fairly large room, refrigerator, a lot of storage space, and shower with strong water pressure. Everything was clean. There is also an option of breakfast at the hotel, which I did not take so cannot comment. 3. The hotel is easy to find and close to the railway station. 4. The room door locks securely.
Disliked: I liked everything; I have no complaints. A couple of remarks that could be useful to other travelers: 1. The walled city is a 30 min walk from the hotel, which I enjoyed because the walk was pleasant and also gave me a chance to see the lower town. It must be a special experience, though, to stay overnight inside the walled city. I stayed in Carcassonne for 3 nights, which is about the right time for being able to see it thoroughly, but if I were to organize my trip again, I would stay at this hotel (Hotel de la Bastide) on the first and last night, and at the Hostelling International Hostel inside the walled city on the middle night. 2. The latest time at which I returned to the hotel was 8:30 pm, ie, after dark at the end of October, and the surroundings felt safe at that time, but I would not feel comfortable about safety if I were returning to the hotel alone at, say, 2 am. The street is quiet, with few people around, and there was a homeless man and a homeless young couple at different times in the vicinity of the hotel; they did not, however, appear to be aggressive. 3. The shower had a hand-held metal hose with a shower head, which is common in old establishments in Europe, but a little bewildering for an American visitor:). I tried to place the shower head into the holder above my head, but the holder was loose, so the shower head first fell and hit me on the head, and the second time flipped around and sprayed water everywhere. But overall that was a minor matter which would not prevent me from staying at this hotel again. Overall, my stay here was an enjoyable experience.
A great hotel, with lovely, helpful staff who made the stay welcoming and peaceful
Liked: The location is ideal, it’s very central and close to the train station and airport shuttle bus!
Disliked: The curtains are very fine and let a lot of light in, other than that it was very good.
Despite distance to le cite, this was a good place to stay
Liked: The manager was very pleasant bed firm room was clean.it had anelevator. at 11E the buffet breakfast was a good value. (Breakfasts these days in Europe can be exorbitant 19E is not uncommon.
Disliked: It was a long, long way to the old city.
A great centrally based hotel in Carcassonne. A fair price, clean and with a kettle!
Liked: We found ourselves with an unexpected overnight in Carcassonne. La Bastide was centrally based and very reasonably priced. We had a superior room with an outdoor terrace - in the summer or if you were there for the TDF, that (huge!) terrace would be a perfect place to relax away from the bustle. Big bonus for me is that the room had a kettle. Very helpful and friendly on reception. It's a no frills place but absolutely perfect if you're looking for a decent price, cleanliness and centrality. Breakfast 11 Euros was good.
