Charming little apartment in Pino with great views
Liked: Roberto was a gracious host, very easy to communicate with. He met us at the apartment and helped us carry our luggage upstaires. The apartment is on the very top floor so we had great views to the mountains and the lake. It is important to note that the apartment is located in Pino which is on the mountainside above Fiumelatte. In the apartment is a sweet little terrace overlooking the lake. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics to prepare simple meals. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Roberto offered to drive us to town or pick us up, and also recommended us places to visit and activities in the area.
Disliked: Logistics were a problem. Getting to the apartment by car was difficult. Very narrow and steep roads especially with a large/long car. The parking spot is tricky to manage (but Roberto helped us). Getting to Varenna is not so simple: either by car and then you have to manage the roads and pay for parking, or (like we chose) walking alongside a busy road with no sufficient sidewalk or lighting for the main part of the way (30-40 min. walk). There is nothing in Pino or Fiumelatte - not even a basic grocery store, so we drove 20min. to the nearest supermarket. All the near restaurants are in Varenna. The apartment had airconditioning but not in the 2nd bedroom and in the living room it didnt work well... There was a fan that we moved around. There was satellite TV but none of the channels was relevant for us... so we didn't use it at all.

Liked: Roberto was absolutely amazing and very helpful. He offered us rides to and from town and the train station as well as the grocery store. We could not have asked for a better host. The panoramic view from the balcony was spectacular.
Disliked: It is a fair walk to reach Varenna. However, it’s ideally located if you have your own vehicle.
Liked: Roberto was an exceptional host. The house was beautiful but up a lot of steps. The view was amazing and the house had all that you need for a stay. He made great recommendations for restaurants and even made a reservation for us. He offered to pick us up from the train station and town after dinner. He carried luggage up for us. Highly recommend and will stay again whenever visiting Lake Como.
