Tricky shower and no vegan breakfast otherwise fine with good location

Liked: The hotel is in a very convenient location and the room was fine. Not amazing, but not bad either. I had trouble with the shower, but the staff did come to help me when I asked (though they seemed reluctant).

Disliked: I'm actually writing this review mostly to help other guests to figure out the shower! I thought mine wasn't working because there's a valve/stopper that you have to pull out to get the water to flow, and it's not at all obvious how to do it. When I rang reception, they just told me to pull it harder, which didn't work, and I ended up having to ask for someone to come and show me (all with me in a robe, feeling tired and smelly). Anyway, the secret is to *pull the lower half of the stopper both upwards and towards you at the same time, to get water flowing. Then, you rotate everything left/right to control the temperature. Pulling it towards you in a straight line will NOT work*, no matter what the staff on reception say when you ask them! Also, I booked this hotel because reviews said it had vegan food at breakfast, but when I got there, there wasn't any. There was just an empty plate with a sign saying "vegani" on it. There were no alternatives to cow's milk either. I noted some lactose free yoghurts and gluten free baked items, but nothing vegan left. In fact, there were no plates to eat off of, though some did arrive after I waited a while. I ended up having just a black coffee and a plate of fruit for breakfast, which didn't seem worth what I paid for it with so many good cafés nearby. In summary, not the breakfast previous reviews had led me to hope for.

Disliked: For several years we have stayed at this hotel about three times a year and always enjoyed coming back. On our last stay, however, our experience did not match the standard of a 4-star hotel. There were no slippers in the room. We asked at reception several times and got a different answer each time: that they didn’t have any, that they would bring them to our room, then again that they didn’t have any. We never received them. During our stay, the toilet paper was not replaced either. The most unpleasant incident happened on the second day. We intentionally left the key card in the slot to keep the power on, with my laptop plugged in and running a task, with an external hard drive attached. When we came back, the key card had been taken and the laptop had been unplugged. We paid for the room, and I believe it is my decision whether to leave the power on while I’m out. Interfering with a guest’s electronic devices without any notice is unacceptable and could have led to data loss. When checking out, we reported all of this at reception, hoping for an explanation. Instead, we received an arrogant reply: that slippers are not included with a standard room and have to be paid for, and regarding the laptop, that “it was probably the cleaning lady.” No apology and no interest in what had happened. The location is still good, but the attention to guests, including those who return regularly, has dropped considerably. We hope the management will take these comments seriously.
