Very good
The first time I've excitedly counted down the days until my vacation would finish
Liked: Absolutely nothing. Unfortunately I feel like I should be contacting the local authorities to have this place shut down.
Disliked: Let's start with the misleading property description. We arrive to the property and are led way past the main building past a dilapidated old building sprinkled generously with random piles of rubbish and the odd mattress. We were brought to our private suite and it was not at all as described on booking.com. everything was slapped together and terribly maintained. Mold was visible on the shower curtain. I immediately phoned the "manager" someone I've still never met, and she blamed booking.com for not allowing different pictures? I told her we could not stay so she offered the "lovely sea view suite.". This was in the main building, and though from the outside it appeared charming, the interior proved not to be so. An elderly woman popped out of what looked to be her permanent residence(she was on the second floor and in a wheelchair) asked for some assistance and was yelled at by the man attending to the property. The vibe he gave off was less hospitality, more indentured servant. We saw a few men like this, all wearing tattered and dirty clothes, all living in random corners of the property. Back to the property itself. Though we asked several times if the room was clean, and were told that it was, our eyes and nose experienced a different story. Rusty pipes meant that every shower or washing of hands, brushing of teeth tasted and smelled of rust. We decided it was better to wear slippers inside the room. The toothbrush cups had dried saliva/toothpaste remnants that were impossible to ignore. There was literally a wedding program from a month earlier left behind on the nightstand by the previous guest. So that room hadn't been cleaned in at least a month. There's a shared kitchen that shouldn't be shared, filthy is the first word that comes to mind.
Disliked: We booked Casa del Rais for one week but ended up cutting our stay short due to a number of issues with the accommodation. The main property is beautiful from the outside and the view of the water is stunning, but unfortunately the accommodation itself was far below what we expected for the price. We were expecting rustic and charming, but our room was dirty and in desperate need of maintenance. The Wi-Fi also did not work at all. After raising our concerns, we were moved to a newly finished room, which we appreciated, but it still felt very much under construction, with exposed wires, construction dust and drilling directly beside us during the day. Staff working on the property were also coming and going directly outside our room at odd hours, late at night and early in the morning. The beach is not private and unfortunately had a considerable amount of litter. At night, loud music from nearby lidos also made sleeping difficult. Most disappointing was how our early departure was handled. We were initially told we could cancel the remainder of our stay and receive a refund. When the alternative room also proved unsuitable, we were then told we had to pay for an additional night we wouldn’t be staying, and while we were still discussing this over WhatsApp, a member of staff was sent to our room to demand cash. We genuinely wanted to enjoy the property and were prepared for a rustic stay, but there is a difference between rustic and accommodation that feels unfinished and poorly maintained. Sadly, we would not return.
If you like a beach a few steps away and looking at the sea al the time, this is the place for you
Liked: Location is amazing, right in front of the sea. We weren’t inside the tonnara but in a house right next to it with a beautiful veranda. Sleeping with the sound of waves is a unique experience
Disliked: A bit too pricey
Liked: I think we may have overlooked the fact that this is an Airbnb rather than a hotel. Once we adjusted our expectations and viewed it as an Airbnb, everything felt much more reasonable. The building is quite old—the ceilings look as if they could use some attention, the kitchen didn't feel particularly clean, and the water pressure came and went. That said, the atmosphere of the property and the beach are so romantic that it's hard to complain too much. Unfortunately, it was very windy during our stay, so we weren't able to swim as the sea was quite rough. We did, however, love the flowers, the garden, and the overall botanical feel of the place. The staff member we met on our last day was also very kind and welcoming. Overall, despite a few shortcomings, the charm and character of the property made for a memorable stay.
A sea lovers dream
Liked: The location is exceptional. The historical house is wonderful. Such a unique place to stay. A perfect place to stay before heading to Palermo Airport. Looking through the shutters to the sea and listening to the sea with the shutters open at night was just perfect!
Loved the location and vibe. If providing cooking facilities they need to be cleaned
Liked: The location and the rustic/vintage vibe. The beds were clean and comfortable. Our requests were address promptly.
Disliked: Cooking facilities and equipment was not clean especially the coffee pod machine.
