Exceptional
A magical little village high in the Chianti hills
Liked: A magical little village high in the Chianti hills. Volpaia means place of the fox in Italian and they were true to their word. After a very high quality meals at both the trattoria and the osteria they feed the wild foxes in the square at night
Disliked: More water in the rooms as quickly ran out and had to walk to refill
I was delighted with my short (3 nights) stay at Volpaia and would recommend it to anyone seeking a charming, quiet and
Liked: Beautifully scenic location. Amazing views. Quiet. Very clean. Well presented
Disliked: Not a dislike as such, but worth mentioning that there are no shops other than a Pizzeria and a Restaurant. Also very hilly if traveling on a bike!
Beautiful place
Liked: So beautiful!
Don’t expect a boutique hotel. It’s a quirky b&b, in a stunning location
Liked: Stunning location, comfortable room and nice continental breakfast. It was interesting to see the wine being produced.
Disliked: We arrived during harvesting season, which meant the staff were more focused on wine production than guests.
An idyllic Toscan country stay in a refurbished village
Liked: We were pleasantly surprised to find ourself in a refurbished traditional village with rooms spread out along a street and hotel parking just above the village. We had our own little private garden, with steps down to the hotel pool and access to a larger communal garden and community room. It was very peaceful and beautiful, and the breakfast was good.
Disliked: Information for guests could be more complete. For one, warning travellers not to take the left-turn going up a dirt road (which is the old road and requires 4x4)--it's marked "Volpaia", and Google Maps indicated it was the shortest route to the given address "Localitá Volpaia". I'd recommend choosing the parking lot as the final destination instead. Drivers should stay on the paved road all the way up to the public parking lot, which is an easy drive. Secondly, I'd recommend the hotel give recommendations for activities in the area, with eating recommendations and opening times (mid-week one or two of the three establishments close).
Liked: The hotel looks very nice, and the facilities are genuinely impressive in terms of size and variety. With slightly better attention to cleanliness and maintenance, it could have been a really great stay.
Disliked: There was a particular smell throughout the property that we found unpleasant, and the overall cleanliness was okay but not excellent; the pool could also have been cleaned more thoroughly. The staff were friendly enough, but overall we felt the hotel was overpriced for what it offered — at €100–200 less per night, we would have considered it very good value.
