  One of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed in

  Liked: Excellent overall. Very friendly staff. Beautiful historic building, with several areas in which to relax.

  Disliked: The only negative was that the tea and coffee sachets in our room were not replenished after the first night. We were there for 4 nights.

  We’re not likely to stay here again!

  Liked: The room was quiet and spacious. The bed was a little too hard. I liked the swimming pool very much. There are gowns in the room and I like this. We like having safe parking on site.

  Disliked: On arrival there was no-one in reception, so I wandered around for about 10 minutes trying to get assistance to check in. When the young lady eventually arrived, she wasn’t friendly or helpful. The reception area is scruffy with two tables and some chairs, but no proper reception desk. The staff tend to stand behind the tables and lean forward to assist guests. There’s a rack with some clothes and bags that adds to the scruffiness. There’s no bidet! It’s a 4 star hotel, so there should be a bidet! There was no top sheet, so we had to request one. The cleaning ladies didn’t know what to do, so they had to call their supervisor to attend to this. Breakfast was bland and the breakfast room was chaotic with guests and staff constantly walking up and down and constantly asking whether we want coffee, even after we told the waitron two or three times that we didn’t! This happened every day! A coffee machine would prevent this annoyance! The man who was making eggs had a bad attitude: he used an extremely hot pan, which meant that the eggs cook too quickly on the bottom but, the whites don’t cook on top. My husband wanted to cover the pan so that the whites would cook properly, but the cook was upset with him for this. The next day at breakfast he was still scowling at my husband! We didn’t get eggs again. Scrambled eggs are well over-cooked! Salt is a problem: there’s no salt on the table and we had to walk up and down looking for a grinder on another table. Once we eventually found one, the grinder was too old to even work, so we had to unscrew the top and use coarse salt. By then our food was already cold. Not nice! Inconsiderate. Again, Vila Galé toilet paper is cheap, rough, thin and nasty!!! The bar decor is very uninviting and not at all in keeping with the grand old building.

  Great breakfast but not a four star hotel

  Liked: Breakfast was very good but some of our favorite items were offered only on the weekends.

  Disliked: Slippery shower floor Low shower pressure Single light above head makes shaving difficult Dining room tables rock excessively Reception staff very slow took 20 minutes each to check in two guests ahead of us Room gets one bottled water only on the first day Balcony door is misaligned and difficult to shut Ran out of facial tissues three times in four days They seem to ensure there is nonsugered yogurt available for breakfast in the weekends, not on the weekdays Also hard boiled eggs are hit or miss
