  Casa dos Correios - an Excellent place to stay

  Liked: We stayed 2 nights in October. The weather was as lovely as the Casa dos Correios. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Paulo. The hotel is right in the centre and everything is walkable from there. The room is very spacious with, what we like a lot, very high ceilings. You find the post office theme throughout the room, from the stamp of Queen D. Maria II on the wall to the shape of the shower head (You might mistake it for a phone) to the logos on the pillows and towels. One of the very pleasant features of the hotel is the shared kitchen where you can make a coffee or tea or your breakfast. Paulo gave us several suggestions, ranging from the different museums to the Corgo Walkways (Passadiços do Corgo) that start just behind the Museu da Vila Velha. Our favorite museum was the "Museu de Arqueologia e Numismática". It has a huge collection of Roman coins. Some of these coins can be seen with more details using the magnifying glasses in 2 coin showcases. The city hall (Câmara) is worth a visit as well. The friendly guard showed us around. Food wise Vila Real has many options and Paulo will point you in the right direction. A very recommendable place to stay when you are in Vila Real.
