What the Costa da Morte is like
The Costa da Morte, the “Coast of Death”, is the western coastline of A Coruña, from Malpica to Finisterre, with cliffs, lighthouses, wild beaches and Cape Finisterre, for centuries the end of the known world and today the end of the Camino for many pilgrims.
Which town to choose
Fisterra is the town with the most places to stay, next to the cape. Camariñas, with its lighthouse and its lacemaking, and Malpica, with its harbour, are smaller. Ézaro has the waterfall that drops straight into the sea.
When to go
From June to September, with the best weather and more pilgrims arriving at Finisterre. Outside summer there are spectacular storms, but many small places close.
Getting around
Santiago is an hour and a half away by car. There are buses to Fisterra and Muxía, but you need a car to visit the lighthouses and beaches.
