What the Jerte valley is like
The Jerte valley is a valley in the north of Cáceres with more than a million cherry trees, which blossom white between late March and April. It has gorges with pools, such as the Garganta de los Infiernos, and mountain villages.
Which village to choose
Jerte is the central village, next to the Garganta de los Infiernos. Cabezabellosa, high up, has views over the valley. The area has lots of rural houses and small places to stay.
When to go
The cherry blossom, with the Cherry Blossom Festival, is the busiest time. In summer, for the natural pools, and in June and July, when the cherries are picked.
Getting around
Plasencia is about 30 minutes away and Madrid about three hours. There are few buses, so a car is the most practical.
