Where to stay in Galicia
Santiago and the cities
Santiago de Compostela has hotels in the old town, right by the cathedral, which fill up in Holy Years and in summer. A Coruña and Vigo are seaside cities with a good range of city hotels; Lugo has Roman walls you can walk all the way round on top.
Rías Baixas and Costa da Morte
The Rías Baixas (Sanxenxo, Cambados, O Grove, Baiona) have the busiest beaches and are Albariño wine country. The Costa da Morte, from Fisterra to Malpica, is wilder, with lighthouses and cliffs. The Rías Altas, to the north, have beaches such as As Catedrais (Cathedrals Beach).
Inland
The Ribeira Sacra, between Lugo and Ourense, has terraced vineyards above the canyons of the Sil and the Miño. Ourense is known for its hot springs. Inland there are pazos (manor houses) and rural guesthouses, and almost everywhere in Galicia you should expect a few rainy days.
