  A pleasant hotel in an excellent location, but the service and attention to detail fell short of five-star expectations

  Liked: The hotel’s location was excellent, making it very convenient for exploring Barcelona. My room was situated far away from the lifts, which made it exceptionally quiet, something I particularly appreciated as a light sleeper. I slept well throughout my stay, and the room was clean and pleasantly decorated. The shower was also reliable, with consistently warm water. Overall, the room provided a peaceful and comfortable place to return to after a day exploring the city.

  Disliked: I chose Kimpton Vividora as a special treat, but unfortunately found the overall experience underwhelming for a five-star hotel. My disappointment began at check-in. I arrived at approximately 13:35 and completed the check-in process, only to be told that although my room was clean, I would need to return at 15:00. I fully appreciate that early check-in isn’t guaranteed, but when I returned at 14:50, another receptionist explained that the room still needed to be inspected. I was asked to take a seat, despite there being no available seating near reception, and eventually received my keys after a further wait. The entire experience lacked the warmth and attentiveness I had expected. This continued during my stay. I received a card under my room door explaining that the hotel had been unable to deliver a complimentary amenity gift and asking me to contact reception. When I called, the receptionist repeatedly spoke over me, making the conversation difficult to follow. I understood that someone would bring the gift to my room, but it never arrived. The gift itself wasn’t important, but the lack of follow-through was disappointing. There were also several minor issues with the facilities. The toilet was initially difficult to flush, although this was subsequently fixed. The curtains frequently caught on their rail, some lifts lacked floor indicators, and the reception area wasn’t particularly obvious upon arrival. The bedside charging ports were also USB-A rather than USB-C. The pillows were extremely flat, requiring me to use three, and the room had very limited space for a suitcase. Although the decor was pleasant, the room didn’t feel particularly luxurious. Individually, these issues were relatively minor, but collectively they detracted from the experience. Having enjoyed warmer welcomes, more attentive service and more effortless stays at less expensive four-star hotels in Barcelona, I struggled to see the value in paying a premium for this property.

  Wonderful stay in gothic area!

  Liked: Staff excellent from moment we walked in. Gave us early check in. We loved the location in the gothic area close and accessible to everything you could need or want. 5 star rooftop!
