  A special stay by the river

  Liked: This was such a special place to stay in Caldas de Reis while doing the Camino. The lovely gentleman who welcomed us (I believe he may be the owner) kindly came to pick us up from Caldas when we arrived on foot, as the property is about a 30-minute walk away. This was such a thoughtful gesture, and we really appreciated it after a day of walking. It is a beautiful old stone house with a river just behind the property. We had a refreshing swim in the river in the evening, which was absolutely amazing and such a memorable part of our stay. The whole house is very charming, peaceful and full of character. We only stayed for one night, but we found it a lovely place to rest and would happily stay again. A very special little place and a wonderful stop during the Camino.

  A fairytale experience on our Camino

  Liked: The situation was absolutely magical set on top of a beautiful river. The scenery and surroundings were unique and a beautiful place to experience on our Camino. The host offered us a lift from the town and even carried my rucksack down to the property from the car park area. The kitchen was well provided with equipment and we enjoyed making and eating our evening meal and breakfast in such amazing surroundings. Would have liked to stay longer.

  Disliked: A little chilly and would have liked to be told we could set a fire in the fireplace if there had been wood provided and told that the chimney was safe to use. There was an issue with the oven that will have been rectified by now, fortunately we only needed to use the hob.

  Quaint and unique despite logistic challenges

  Liked: The property is in a beautiful location and sits in the middle on the river as it was an old water mill converted into a home! Nice fireplace to keep the place warm as entire home is built of stone and located in the river!

  Disliked: Getting to the property was quite a challenge and I do not recommend it to anyone with mobility issues and large suitcases.. steep drop to the river with narrow uneven roads but very quaint. It’s an uphill hike to walk back into town for provisions. Small narrow staircase up to second floor where bedrooms are located so not advised to try and carry suitcases upstairs.

  It really was an exceptional stay. We would highly recommend this location and hope to return!!!

  Liked: The location was absolutely magical and our host was incredibly helpful and kind. It was easy to walk into town and we had all we needed.

  Disliked: Because of the humidity there was a bit of mold and the kitchen could have been stocked a bit better. These things didn't impact how much we loved this location.
