Very good
Liked: The hotel is very close to the Christopher Columbus Caravel Museum. The room was spacious and clean. The owner was very kind and provided us with clear instructions on how to access the property outside of regular hours.
Disliked: There was a smell of smoke, probably due to the old furniture. We also had to move one of our suitcases because ants had gotten inside it. The view from the window is not good.
Value for money at an excellent location
Liked: It's not the first time I stayed at the Hotel Santa Maria. In fact I'm returning there almost every other year, because it's centrally located and the reception desk staff is very friendly. There's ample parking space and Palos de la Frontera and Doñana National Park and the city of Huelva are really around the corner. Even the rooms at street side are quiet enough to sleep comfortably. The hotel definitely gives you value for money. Compared to my last visit the TV-screen has tripled in size. It's a decent tv now.
Disliked: The existing problem with the cleaning staff not changing towels or not replacing them after taking them away, still exists. Luckily all other staff is happy to help you out. This year for the first time I had a bed that, obviously, was beyond it's expiry date. It felt as if an overweight person had jumped on it several times. Laying on it was like sleeping in a hammock. The bedframe really needed replacement. Hopefully this will be resolved before my next visit.

Liked: Good location to sleep for ferry in the morning. Quiet and clean.

Liked: Just the location. The sheets and towels were clean. The reception lady, was very nice.
Disliked: The room smelled like an old ashtray, it was cleanly painted, but l think after previous years of heavy smoking, the smell had permeated the wooden doors, wardrobes, and all the wooden furniture. It was a twin room with the most horrendous view, overlooking a roof with aircon units and piping, it was just a mess. there was a slight view of the river. When l booked l payed a little extra for a better room😳🤷🏻♀️l wouldn’t have liked to stay in the lesser paid room. I couldn’t imagine how it could be any worse. I also had very tiny ants crawling on my pillow. Good job l always take insect spray away with me. So l used this all under the bed, and all around the room. I’m so glad l had only booked one night. we will not be returning ever.
Disliked: Was in the middle of nowhere, no shops, restaurants nearby, no tea making facilities in room and nowhere to get a cup of tea, no hairdryer, no staff after 9.30pm till next morning, went to get breakfast and it was finished at 9.30am. so had nothing all night and left without anything to eat or drink very disappointed 😞
