  Terrible mosquito problem and absolutely no customer care

  Liked: I would advise future guests to ask carefully about the apartment's location, ventilation and mosquito exposure before booking in summer.

  Disliked: We spent almost 3k for a week in July at this residence with five adults and children, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Our apartment faced a wooded area with an overwhelming number of mosquitoes. We could barely open the windows without letting tons of mosquitoes inside. With the July heat and no AC, we were forced to choose between keeping the windows closed and suffering the heat or opening them and being literally eaten ALIVE! My mom was covered in bites, and we even took photos of that. The sleeping arrangements were also cramped for our group. When I contacted Odalys to request a partial refund, they refused any sort of help for the poor treatment. They claimed that mosquitoes are a recurring problem they cannot entirely prevent. I was asking for a reasonable gesture after a genuinely unpleasant stay costing three grands. They made no offer of compensation whatsoever. The lack of consideration shown after the complaint was almost as disappointing as the stay itself.

  Enjoyed the area and would recommend the area, nice part of the world

  Liked: We stayed for 2 nights and made our way (2 adults 4 children some Adult age) by taxi following a short stay in Bilbao. A poor rating for value for money, however to be fair we did book it very late i.e. a few days before hand. This is of course our choice and options were limited for accommodation in the area, I am just answering the question! We got a room with 2 bedrooms and a fold out couch bed, the room was clean and tidy and had a big balcony. We did not use the facilities such as the kitchen as it was a short stay, nor did we use the restaurant. We went to the restaurant by the beach Le Bistro du Mata which I would recommend, service and food were both great and a nice views, 5 mins walk from the location on the beach. We also walked into St Jean de Luz, took about 20 minutes, not a bad walk and we had breakfast there, some good places to eat. There is a bus but we didnt use it. The swimming pool at the residence was clean, safe and relaxing, other than that we really just used the location for sleeping.

  Disliked: We were trying to order a 6 seater taxi (with luggage) to get to our next destination 30 mins up the coast. I felt the reception could have been better educated. While they were friendly it went as far as giving us a number for a local firm and make the call ourselves, the taxi office didn't speak good English and our French was equally limited so in the end we arranged 2 x 4 seater Ubers. When we came here from Bilbao the location there were able to take our details and order the taxi for us. Yes, the lesson is 'learn more French'. It just made what could have been a simple gesture/task complicated and more costly for us.

  Liked: Clean property on the edge of a small forest, near the beach; very nice staff, especially the lady at the reception; there are a few places to eat nearby, and there is a Lidl about 1 km away

  Disliked: The beds are not very comfortable There is no soap and shower gel in the bathroom; there are no dishwashing gel/tablets (although at the reception we were told that we had to hand over the rooms clean, as we found them:) ) For a short stay like ours, it is not worth buying so many things that you cannot take with you afterward

  Liked: Good location, lovely beach nearby and bus to Saint Jean de Luz

Reception opening hours: 09:00 to 12:00 and 15:00 to 19:00 every day except Wednesdays and Sunday afternoons.
