Disliked: Our two-night stay confirmed many of the negative reviews posted about Buranco over the years. Do not be misled by the attractive photos of greenery: insects crawled inside our room, and there was a toad outside. The room was small, the bathroom was extremely cramped and leaked, and the lights flickered whenever we used the electric kettle. There were no toothbrushes, toothpaste or slippers, and the shampoo and soap were very poor quality. Each guest received only one old, thin towel, which was replaced on the second night only after we requested it. For over €400+ per night and a four-star rating, the standard was unacceptable. It felt more like a cramped, poorly maintained apartment from the former Soviet era than a modern hotel. Guests should also be warned about access. From Monterosso station, it takes about ten minutes to reach the bottom of the hill, followed by another ten to fifteen minutes carrying luggage up a very steep slope. The hotel refused our request for help transporting our luggage downhill when we left and required us to settle the bill the night before departure. Dinner was acceptable apart from the excessively salty pasta, but the food and wine cost roughly twice as much as at restaurants in the village. The employees also appeared visibly tense around the owner, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. I do not expect this review to change Buranco, as similar complaints have been made for years. I only hope it helps future travellers understand what to expect and consider other accommodation in Monterosso.
Liked: Absolutely incredible location with the most helpful and attentive staff. Accommodation is as pictured on the website. We also had dinner at the property which was excellent.
