Exceptional
Nice property but very hot in summer months, the owner became very unpleasant in post- stay communications
Liked: The property itself is beautiful and clearly well cared for. It has a beautiful ocean view.
Disliked: There is no a/c or shade which meant for a very warm stay in July. There are only two garden doors to open for ventilation which means that, to have ventilation during the night, the doors remain unlocked. As two women, we were uncomfortable with this. There are also be screens in the patio doors which means that, when left open, the unit ends up with a lot of ants. Not shocking, but we didn’t love having ants in the kitchen. As other reviews have mentioned, Henri was helpful and pleasant during our stay, purchasing a new fan to help with the heat. We ended up checking out early because the heat was just too uncomfortable and he had agreed to refund us one nights stay. Dealing with him afterwards became very unpleasant and I received two very condescending communications from him. I wasn’t interested in continuing the communication with him and decided to forego it he refund he offered.
I would not recommend the Vale cottage unless staying in cooler months
Liked: There was a nice cheese and fruit assortment along with jam and small toast greeting us when we arrived, The kitchen is well furnished. The view is outstanding. The location was excellent for our needs. You do need a car.
Disliked: My low scores for the comfort and facilities center on the lack of air conditioning and a lack of fans. No A/C and only one light weight pedestal fan that never seemed to meet our needs. We stayed the end of August and it reached the upper 70's and the large siding glass door/window faces west right into the sun. The place turns into an oven even, with the sun blocking drapes. We left sliding doors and windows open during the day when we left, but one day, unfortunately sudden storm came up and our host had to close them making our room an oven again. There are no screens on any of the windows but other than a stray fly or two that wasn't a problem. Our host told us on arrival he doesn't believe in air conditioning, so I wouldn't attempt to stay here in summer months unless you love warm rooms.

Liked: Location was ideal. Close to supermarket and town although we felt like we were in the country. Great view

Great views west over farmland and to the ocean while being only 500 meters from a supermarket
Liked: Henry is a great communicator. When we first booked the stay, he informed us of what to expect, recommended many activities and restaurants. Just prior to our trip he confirmed our flights and provided a map from the airport to his property. Upon our arrival on Terceira, he confirmed we landed OK and got our rental car and we agreed to a time to meet at his property. When we arrived he was waiting for us and showed us around the property and how everything worked. He also had booked restaurants for our dinners.
Disliked: I wish we could have stayed longer.
Liked: Vale dos Milhafre is in a marvellous position, close to the city, with nice garden where to eat looking the sea. Inside is clean and Henrique is a special host: always available to help, always kind. we had a nice stay
