Nice if you want something out of the way, not much to do around hotel, return trip to Funchal run by the hotel are 33 e

Liked: The staff were the standout everyone was pleasant and helpful. Nice pool and pool area. Always spotless.

Disliked: I paid extra for a sea view room but at night it was extremely noisy, even with the doors closed due to entertainment. Which was pretty bad in itself!

Liked: The receptionist, Susana, when I checked in was delightful - she was very efficient, polite and helped me check in early. The room is a great size, and I had a room overlooking the pool and the ocean, which had the most magnificent sunsets. On the first night there was also complementary cake and wine brought to the room, honestly just overall fantastic. I didn't realise it at first, but you can eat at any of the restaurants including the ala carte which I recommend if you don't have kids. The food was exceptional. All you can drink sparkling wine, ice cream and cocktails by the pool. I went in October and there was almost no one around, sun loungers were easily available and not too noisy pool side, live entertainment every night. It was so good.

Disliked: The food at the buffet was very average, I recommend going to book at the other restaurants and eating there, they don't cater for kids unlike the buffet. The bar staff act like they're doing you a favor, its easier to just help yourself to wine, than ask for a cocktail. I did book the spa treatment which was a separate cost and definitely not worth the money, its just a man rubbing oil on you like a chicken ready for roasting. There was a receptionist in the middle of the weekend who was super unhelpful, but I think its just luck of the draw who you get.

    Memorable

    Liked: Perfect location

Disliked: The rooms were extremely hot at night because the walls would get extremely hot through the day. Plus AirCo was not functioning properly.

Liked: I would say this hotel is lovely and the staff are nice. We enjoyed the hotel itself and the staff were generally nice.

Disliked: We had a couple of problems during our stay which would probably make us think twice about staying here again. 1. On arrival, we were given a completely different room to the Family Suite we had booked. We had booked months in advance and specifically chose this room because we were travelling with our little one and wanted the additional space. When we raised this with reception, we were initially made to feel as though we simply didn't like the room, or that it was of the same calibre as the room we had booked. To note, even the hotel's own internal booking system showed that we had been allocated a different room type. Thankfully, this was sorted the following day and we were moved to a Family Suite which is what we had actually booked. However, we have received no refund or compensation for the first night, despite being given a completely different room to the one we had paid for. 2. Late checkout seems to be a game of luck. On four separate occasions between booking our stay and check out from the hotel, I requested for late checkout as we had a late flight out of Madeira. We were never offered the late checkout we needed, not even at a surcharge, which we would have been happy to pay. This was particularly problematic as we have a one year old, meaning we ended up having to spend several hours waiting around the hotel, including having our child nap in reception, looking for toilets for nappy changes, and final showers before departure etc. It made the final few hours of our holiday unnecessarily stressful. Given our experience, I would say the hotel appears to have an overcapacity problem, as even the luggage storage area was completely full at checkout. The cherry on the cake was getting stuck in the lift in our block the morning we were leaving and later on the lift not working at checkout time, so we had to move our bags via the stairs. Fun! Overall, these issues made the stay more stressful than it needed to be.
