Exceptional
Strong smell of mold. No refund
Disliked: The specific property has a very strong smell of mold. We left the property after informing the receptionist. When requesting for a refund, the property denied it claiming: 1. We did not raise a complaint with them immediately. 2. They offered to move us to a different property. On the first point, we had been driving the whole day from Tavira through the eastern roads up to Evora. When we got to the property, we just left our bags and went to eat and walk in the old town. We raised it as soon as we returned back to the property. On the second, the receptionist told us that "she can help us find a place to stay". Since we were only 1.5h away from our main holiday home, we decided to just head back, so told her that "It's ok. We have a place to stay". I understood her question as trying to be helpful. At no point did she explain that if we do not accept her offer, we would not be refunded. She did not also ask to confirm the smell. It seemed this is not the first time for her dealing with this issue. To highlight the attitude of the property owner they brushed off the concern with a "we have checked and there is no mold anywhere in the apartment". There are other reviews sandwiched between reviews from other properties on this listing claiming the same problems. As can be seen from the properties response, when booking this property, make sure to first ask them about proper procedure for handling problems. As i've written above, i was not asked to verify that there is in fact the smell of mold in the property. Apparently i must enforce the property to verify it myself. Neither was i told that i can't go out to eat immediately, but need to first confirm everything is ok. The receptionist had ample opportunity to ask to verify the smell and clearly explain what needs to happen. I did not avoid talking to your reception. They only told me they can "help me find another place" and to which i replied "it's ok.
Real Evora
Liked: Style of the room made it unique to Evora and the breakfast was lovely
Disliked: Close proximity to the road meant passing vehicles woke us when sleeping on the sofabed.
Beautifully appointed room and great base for exploring
Liked: Lovely spacious room, well appointed and finished, and at a reasonable price. Good communal facilities were essential for us after putting our 3 year old toddler to bed in the provided travel cot in our room. We paid for breakfast too which was excellent by all accounts (warm pastries, nice cereal, fresh bread / fruit etc). Also very detailed / comprehensive check-in instructions (our planned arrival was after reception was shut) made life simpler.
Liked: Roomy. very well stocked kitchen.
Disliked: bit noisy at night
Comfortable stay in the old town
Liked: Comfortable, clean & thoughtful decor touches
Disliked: Nothing
Liked: The place was very clean. Daniela was very helpful!
