  A Little Gem

  Liked: Casa Carolina is located close to the centre of Vila Real but far enough away, so it's nice and tranquil. It's a traditional house with two floor levels. It is small but very well designed. We were met and welcomed by the owners father, who lives nearby. He took time to show us around the property and explain operations as necessary. We would stay here again. Ideal for a couple.

  Disliked: We liked Casa Carolina very much. Some improvements might be considered by the operators.... 1. Courtyard furniture is old and broken. 2. The tv is very old and somewhat small. There is no internet/smart connection to tv, so there is no access to Netflix or similar channels. 3. It's very easy to misjudge the sloping ceiling in the upstairs bedroom, as others have noted in reviews.

  Lovely private residence with helpful and friendly hosts, in a peaceful town location

  Liked: Lovely place to stay in Vila Real, with friendly and helpful hosts. Good facilities including bath and shower, washing machine, dishwasher and nicely equipped kitchen. The terraces are welcome bonuses, and the air conditioning came in useful at times. Comfortable and quiet. I hope to return!

  Disliked: All good, but a light on the stairs (or at least a switch upstairs to turn off downstairs lighting) would be helpful, as you have to ascend in the dark or go back down to turn off lights. Maybe a decorative stripe or something on the sloping wall in loft bedroom would help, as the white wall is so hard to 'see' and no matter how many times I tried, I often still hit my head!

  Very good

  Disliked: Only half a toilet roll - no spares. Dishwasher but no dishwasher tablets. They should consider a welcome pack (1 dishwash-tablet per day of stay, 1 spare toilet roll, etc.).
