Liked: Everything. We used to camp here at the Palacio when our children were young. This time we (just the two of us) stayed in the hotel for the first time and it was great. Even though it's now low season and the Palacio's own restaurant was closed, there was an excellent restaurant open 5 minutes walk away.

    Disliked: Nothing

    Such a disappointment

    Liked: The location

Disliked: For €240 per night, the experience was honestly horrible. I’m sorry, but it’s unacceptable to pay this much for a four-bed room when two of the beds were foldable, uncomfortable and impossible to sleep in. The AC wasn’t working at all, even after we spoke to the staff about it. They couldn’t do anything to fix the problem and we had to sleep with the windows open and with the mosquitos all over the room. The breakfast was also very disappointing. There were very few option to eat. The nectarines were moldy, the bananas were so overripe that they weren’t even suitable for banana bread, the eggs were gray, and the cheese had a strange, plasticine-like texture. In the end, we could only eat the bread, jam, and butter because those were individually packaged. For the price we paid, I expected a much better experience.

Nice hotel in a really lovely part of the coast

Liked: The rooms were really nice and well appointed for the price. The hotel building is genuinely lovely and it’s clear someone has taken time and care to bring it back to life. The location is great. There are several bar/restaurants in easy walking distance. La Pesa Bar was our favourite but they were all good. Playa de Guadamia is a great spot for a swim at high tide.

Disliked: The breakfast wasn’t the best, particularly the coffee. It was a bit hit and miss with what was available and the choice was a little limited. At €10 it isn’t terrible value but a decent coffee would have sweetened the deal The charges for parking. There are hotel spaces but these are an additional €10 per day or you can pay €4 nearby. There are free spaces just outside and we got one of these every time. So I wouldn’t advise paying. The site is also a campsite and facilities like the pool are shared. This wasn’t a huge problem for us though.

Liked: Beautiful and unique hotel in a fantastic location. Beach view in rooms 105 & 106! Pool bar serves delicious food at lightning speed, nicest servers EVER, campground vibe next door adds a nice bustle.

Disliked: There was an issue with breakfast. We arrived after 9 pm and hadn’t realized that breakfast wasn’t included in our booking – our mistake for not double-checking. The next morning we wanted to add breakfast and were rather brusquely told that there simply wasn’t enough food available on the buffet for additional same-day bookings. (We checked later on and sure enough - plenty of food there) The following day the situation repeated itself, even though we had informed the day before. We insisted, and our kids could eat. It’s hard to understand how a buffet can’t accommodate a few additional guests – we would have happily paid. On the bright side, the bars in nearby Nueva serve a much better desayuno anyway. Absolutely unnecessary extra charges: parking, late arrival. Don’t forget the bath cap in case you want to use the pool. Don’t have one? 2,50€ at the small campground store Really didn’t love the abundance of patronising’no-signs’ all over the place. One of our beds was heavily lied-in. Kept rolling into the mould in the middle. Annoyances not so bad but avoidable and for the price paid, a little outrageous.

Liked: The room was very nice and clean

Disliked: A bit of a complicated system (cleaning, parking, breakfast, dinner) that is not written in an information card. With the language barrier for me it was a bit hard to remember and understand how everything works.

À little bit like stepping back to a better time

Liked: I love this place. First came here in 1985 so this was a bit of memory jolter. Of course, it was camping only then, the hotel building just being a shell. The renovation has been very tastefully done. Fabous beaches within a walk away and then there's the Picos.

    Disliked: Leaving.
