Fabulous
Not what was promised
Liked: We had an unusually frustrating stay at Casa Campo, which is unfortunate since many aspects of the place were quite appealing. Our room was pleasant, as were the grounds; our landlady was friendly; the town is quiet and has charm (though no facilities at all, not even a small store or cafe). The trouble was that the lodging did not match the description on Booking.com in ways that made our time there difficult.
Disliked: First, what is not clear on the website is that Casa Campo includes rooms in two buildings several hundred yards apart. Ours was not in the main building but on the third floor of the landlady's own residence. That residence has no kitchen available to guests and (at least during our stay) no wifi. Contrary to the description, there's nothing like a kitchenette in the room (as you can see in the attached photos): just a microwave and a small cube refrigerator on the floor, and a coffee maker that worked only with difficulty. There was no table we could eat at, no counter, no utensils, dishes, or bowls. Since we expected to have breakfast and possibly dinner in the lodging, and there was no alternative in town, we were considerably inconvenienced. When she saw our frustration, the landlady allowed us to use the kitchen in the main facility for breakfast, and we enjoyed a couple of evening snacks in chairs on the grounds, but an accurate description would have allowed us to plan properly. The lack of wifi was also a real frustration; the landlady said it was knocked out by fires in the area, but we discovered it was working in the main building. There was also no closet or dresser (just a coatrack) and no mountain views (unless you went outside)--no big deal, but another way the description is inaccurate. Booking.com, which we've frequently used, was not very helpful. Their first responsive was quite sympathetic; the second essentially said that we had no cause for complaint since the room was as described, which just wasn't the case.
Rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. Very rustic and rural environment
Liked: The lady owner was very nice and watchful. The room was extremely clean with a good air conditioner. The area was very beautiful, and in a very small historical community. Parking was abundant.
Disliked: A bit too remote. No markets or restaurants in town. If you want something to eat, you have to drive 15 minutes in town. I would recommend a refrigerator somewhere on the premises for the guests to keep their drinks cold, throughout the night. The owner was a bit too available. Every-time you left your room, she was there. It gave you a since, that you were carefully watched. A little creepy. My room was upstairs with no elevator.
