  A disappointing stay marked by misleading photos, poor maintenance, unexpected charges, and a host who prioritizes profi

  Disliked: If you arrive after dark, the path from the parking area to the house is unlit and you have a chance of tripping (as happened to our child). Also, until the yard dogs get used to you, they will approach and bark at you — harmless, but for someone not accustomed to this it can be unsettling. Although it states that hygiene products are included, we only found an empty bottle of liquid hand soap and a used bar of soap. There was no dish sponge. The house in the photos looks somewhat secluded, but in reality there are two houses almost wall to wall. The washing machine does not exist in the rented property — it may be in another outbuilding, we didn’t look further and were not informed — so we ended up going to a local laundromat. Traces of damp, dark and poorly lit rooms. The yard and pool area are a joke. We can hide behind the word “rural,” but in reality it is simply an unkempt yard with outdated furniture where it is clear that not even a minimum of interest has been invested. We originally booked for 5 people, with the 5th person required to pay 15 euros per night upon arrival (according to their policy). In the end only 4 of us came; the host did not need to bring an extra bed — they simply placed a towel on a kitchen sofa. At the end of our stay, we were told that 60 euros would be withheld from the 200-euro deposit for the 5th person who did not show up, on the grounds that these are their terms and conditions and those of Booking. We later read and researched the matter — nowhere does it state that a fee is charged if the additional person does not show up; it only states that additional persons will pay 15 euros per night at check-in. After being informed of the charge for the 5th person who never arrived, we became somewhat skeptical of the host, so we also read the printed house rules, where we noticed a 40-euro charge if the rubbish is not taken to a public bin — something not mentioned on Booking.com and not communicated at check-in.

  Very good

  Liked: The surroundings (the mountains, the mango orchard, even the barking dogs and noisy roosters) were perfect. The proximity to the beach and nearby cities.

  Disliked: Creaking bed in master's bedroom; Not enough facilities for cooking; Nearby restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

  Absolutely beautiful

  Liked: Absolutely beautiful location, lovely clean and rustic holiday home. Mountains all around you. Good facilities in the home.

  Disliked: There wasn’t any aircon, and the pool could of done with being filtered a little more often. However when we informed Pablo he did supply an extra fan. That’s the only reason I’m not giving the room a 9/10 as it was a perfect holiday.

  Disappointing

  Disliked: Garden furniture dirty and the stretcher Broken. Faul fruit on the terrace and lawn, had not been cleaned in weeks Undetermined quantity of Cats on the premises. Fully outdated the furniture and kitchen and lack of cleaning. It smelled muggy in the rooms and the bathroom For 125 euro a night something more might be expected.

  Pleasant break in the hills near Santa Cruz

  Liked: Great little house with lovely garden and outside eating area. Set in beautiful hills in a secluded setting but short walk into town. There is another property behind that shares the swimming pool. Pool was clean and tidy although cool! Nice restaurant very near although closes at 5pm.

  Disliked: Rains a lot more here than the west of the island and more in the hills than even Santa Cruz. Damp inside the property when it is wet weather. Lack of oven was definitely a drawback for self catering.

  small cozy cottage in the valley of Anaga mountains

  Liked: We enjoyed staying at Casa dos Barrancos cottage B, it’s small but clean and comfortable place. Short drive away from shops, restaurants and beaches. Even though there are 2 more little cottages on the property you still feel privacy. Pool is quite small but was fine to cool down on very hot days. Very good WiFi, worked in all rooms and even at the pool. Small kitchen with small hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. Bathroom is good size and we always had hot water and lots of clean towels.

  Disliked: In each of the rooms there is only one plug socket and it was a bit of problem to try and charge phones or tablets and use the fan at the same time. The place would benefit from extension cables and also with extra fan as it’s gets extremely hot In summer in the day time. The pool area needs some TLC as it’s overgrown and the furniture had better days. What ever chemicals are used in the pool caused a reaction with sun cream and our kids looked like little minions ( all body and swim suits yellow/ green ) Bring EAR PLUGS! Every morning between 4-5am local Rosters start the “Tenerife’s got talent” show. There are so many of them in the valley and it’s impossible to sleep. As well as dogs howling and barking all night.
