Fabulous
Lovely stay, be prepared for a steep walk if you’re not driving up!
Liked: Lovely traditional hotel. Great view of the vineyard at the rear. Superb evening meal and breakfast.
Disliked: There wasn’t anything to dislike although we would have liked a kettle in the room as my friend doesn’t eat breakfast so it would have been nice for her to make a hot drink.
Lovely stay in Rudesheim
Liked: Very friendly staff. We had a great meal at the restaurant one evening, and breakfasts were just what we needed.
Disliked: On the edge of town a bit away from the city center, which has pros and cons.
Liked: All perfect.

Pleasant, educational, good value
Liked: A long-established family hotel, we dealt mainly with Silva, a very hands-on owner. She was most helpful, and spoke good English (our German is very limited). Crucially, our room was air-conditioned: many German hotels do not have a/c, and in the hot weather we had it was blissful, more than justifying the choice. General ambience was comfortable and good, and the central courtyard delightful for dinner. Sadly, one couldn't have a drink there during the day, as to do so would attract non-residents, and the hotel is not equipped to handle such business. Our room was perfectly adequate, spotlessly clean and had good water-pressure in the shower. The Gasthof Krancher is very well located for exploring the immediate area, in particular the Niederwald Monument and cable-car, which was well worth the visit. The area is very clean and quiet.
Disliked: Nothing as regards the hotel. Visitors should note that it's a 15 or 20 minute walk downhill to the town centre/river - easy down, recommend taxi back, especially in hot weather. Rudesheim itself is small, and suffering a bit from lack of tourists on the boats (global warming/dry summers having shrunk the Rhine, some have been cancelled). However, the remaining part of the town is beautifully maintained, clean, safe and offers a number of good restaurants. It's also very convenient for nearby exploration, such as the Mosel.

Disliked: A little further out but we took a taxi back up the hill
