Very good
Liked: Lovely staff and location. Close to most beaches and bus routes.
Disliked: The door to my room had a gap above that let a draft through. Other than that all good
If you want a cheap, quiet place near some amazing beaches then this is it
Liked: It’s definitely more of a traditional Greek hotel than a fancy resort. If you know that coming in you will enjoy your stay.
Disliked: We were fine with it being older, but there were these weird pipes coming out of the ground that had been cut. They need to be removed or hidden. Instead they we just open in the bathroom and living room.
Room 2 unfit for purpose
Liked: Great location. Building had character. Size of the room. Crisp, clean bedding.
Disliked: The grounds looked a bit neglected. Referring specifically to Room 2 - on first impressions freshly painted and clean, pretty lights, characterful, spacious. However, the room clearly has a problem with damp. Plaster was lifting in parts, it smelt very foisty and harboured an overwhelming number of mosquitoes. Never, in 41 holidays in Greece have I seen so many in a room - breeding rather than coming in, I would say. The toilet and shower drain needed replacing or repairing as did the kitchen sink and some units. I have to say it was probably the worst room we have ever had in Greece. In my opinion it should not be let until it is greatly improved. Yes, it was cheap but there were far superior properties available in the locality at a similar cost. Unfortunately I seem to be unable to upload the photos taken during our stay.
Liked: - The two gentlemen running the hotel were both very friendly and kind and helped make our stay very enjoyable. - The hotel is pretty, well maintained and very clean. - The hotel pool is nice; we came in early October, so it was already a bit chilly, but during the hot summer months it must be great. - The location of the hotel inside Agia Anna is great: it is very close to the shore and to the supermarkets, but at the end of a short side street, so it was quiet and calm. There are no sidewalks on Naxos (and not much non-commercial infrastructure of any other kind!), so we saw that people from hotels that are deeper inland often had to walk on the public roads with car traffic to get to the sea. - The breakfast was OK, there was sufficient selection of food: bread, jams and honey, sweet and savory pastries, cheese, ham, fried eggs and bacon, some fruits and vegatables. The breakfast is served at a beach bar, a 100 meter walk from the hotel.
Disliked: - The equipment in the kitchenette is fairly minimal, there are only the most essential items. However, with a bit of resourcefulness and after asking for some items from the hotel crew, we managed to cook everything we needed. - Some food at the breakfast was a bit stale; in particular the sliced cucumber, which went a bit bad after a few days. - This is not really a fault of the hotel, of course, but the area around Agia Anna is not very beautiful: except for the hotels and restaurants, there are just dusty fields filled with weeds, garbage and some decrepit structures, so there are not many nice walks in the area. You can walk on the beach covered with rental sunbeds (20+ EUR/day, btw), but other than that the only coastal "promenade" is a narrow public road with traffic in both directions and no sidewalk. Unless you want to spend all your time lying on the beach or in the hotel pool, I'd strongly recommend renting a car to explore the island.
Do not stay here!
Liked: Nothing. The staff were friendly enough. The pool was okay.
Disliked: This is, without a doubt, the most overpriced hotel I have ever stayed at considering the quality and cleanliness. It was absolutely disgusting. The towels were dirty, there were cockroaches in the room, black mould in the bathroom, a stained toilet and a broken toilet seat. The entire property was run-down, rusty and clearly had very little money spent on maintenance. There were broken pot plants, old fridges and mattresses left around the grounds, and the gardens were completely neglected. The kitchenette was filthy and completely unusable. There was not a single redeeming feature, other than the pool being reasonable. Most concerning was the complete lack of basic health and safety, particularly with young children. There were obvious hazards around the property, including an old, rusty umbrella with nails sticking out, which I actually scraped my head on and ended up with a large scratch from a rusty nail. There was also a rusty saw lying around that my three-year-old picked up. We had to leave early because the conditions were simply unacceptable. We ended up staying at the hotel right next door, which was a similar price but was worlds apart in terms of cleanliness, quality and overall condition. I can imagine this may once have been a lovely hotel, but it has clearly been left to deteriorate. In its current condition, I would not recommend staying here, particularly with children.
Liked: Lovely clean and spacious apartment only minutes from the beach and a super friendly, helpful and welcoming host.
Disliked: Breakfast not great but for the price it didn't really matter
