  Liked: The location is great, and the host is pretty nice, but there are BED BUGS and LOTS OF THEM.

  Disliked: BED BUGS! We are traveling as 2 young women from the US and were supposed to stay in Matera for 3 nights. We ended up arriving a day late, which the host was very accommodating about. We went out for the evening but upon returning discovered LOTS of bed bug evidence. The sheets that we had made fresh that afternoon were covered in dirt and sheddings from the bugs and the mattress was stained with blood. We ended up having to sleep on wooden chairs in the common room until the morning, when we asked for a refund and left. The host was nice enough about it to give us our money back, but DEFINITELY KNOWS ABOUT THE BUGS because he didn't put up any sort of fight about us getting our money back and seemed to want us to leave as to not tell the other guests.

  Liked: Great location, very affordable. There is a charm to this place. Rocco was nice.

  Disliked: It's peak summer and there are only fans to cool the place down, A/C would have been the ideal solution. The beds have no privacy, curtains for each would be great. They are also very close to one another. There is a fee of 3 euros if you want to leave your bag there for one and a half hours after checking out - in almost every hostel this is free.
