  Liked: Absolutely gorgeous. Everything was great from the parking pick-up up until the drop-off. Staff is smiling and wants to make your stay perfect. Breakfast was delicious. Drinks on the roof with the view were ideal. We had a wonderful time.

  The hotel is beautiful and 5-star in name, but the experience didn't match that standard, or what we've come to

  Liked: The breakfast was excellent. Really delicious food! Staff at breakfast was also really welcoming! The bartender at the terrace while we waited for our room noticed we were tired and kindly made us drinks and sent out some snacks, a thoughtful touch we really appreciated.

  Disliked: We are frequent guests of Leading Hotels of the World properties, and this was, for the first time, a disappointing experience within this network. Arrival and parking: We reached out in advance asking for guidance on parking because of the ZTL, and the response we got was fairly shallow. Once we arrived at the car park, there was no one there to receive us, and we had to wait for the driver then for other guests. The driver spent the whole ride speaking Italian with them, completely ignoring our presence. Check-in: We arrived around 2pm, ahead of the official check-in time, and reception turned out to be tedious, forced, and way tooooo long. We were exhausted and just wanted to get to the room, but she even followed us inside and kept talking, even after we said "it's great, thank you" three times, trying to signal we were done 😅. Unlike every other hotel on this trip, there was no acknowledgment at all that we were on our honeymoon, despite having noted it at booking. Room: The air conditioning simply couldn't keep up, the bed was nice but the room was SO hot we couldn’t sleep well. Also we were woken up at 7 a.m. by the sound of car horns and carts on the cobblestones. The room and bathroom were spacious and well-appointed, and we liked the amenities too. The soap dispenser in the bathroom was broken and leaking, a small detail that shows a lack of care.

  Elegant well located hotel with excellent staff. Excellent!

  Liked: Wonderful staff. Very considerate parking assistance and pick up. Excellent rooms in this elegant hotel. Wonderful breakfast. One of the best hotels in Italy. We really valued the help of Domenico, Theresa and Carmen.

  Disliked: Nothing. The staff went out of their way to provide an outstanding experience.

  A special place

  Liked: We had high expectations for Palazzo Gattini - and I'm pleased to say that it completely exceeded them. This is a special place with beautiful rooms, a terrace with great views over Matera and a lovely spa. But what really set the hotel apart for us was the staff who made us feel so welcome and cared for. We were greeted warmly by Carmen on reception who was helpful throughout our stay, and enjoyed a nightly sunset drink where we received impeccable service (and delicious Negronis!) from Alessia and Dino.
