  Liked: A large, clean room with a comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. Great location!

  Disliked: The only downside was that we were given a room with a small, obstructed window about 2.5 metres above the floor, so it felt as though there was no window at all. We’re not sure what caused it, but during the night, there were sudden flashes of light 3–4 times, as if someone were taking photos with a camera flash. A very strange experience.

  Historic ruins in modern comfort

  Liked: Location! Actually inside the e historic center and around the corner of everything. Clean comfortable and very friendly host. They also send recommendations on places to visit or eat so you can avoid tourist traps:-)

  I 1000% will come back and stay again, also I would recommend this accommodation to my family and friends going to Mater

  Liked: Very clean, accommodation and comfortable bed. Entire Stay Matera units/floor seemed newly renovated and modern. I love that our room had high ceilings and somewhat felt like you were staying in a renovated cave. I feel this is a couples room since the shower doesn’t have its own room. It’s more open concept like a bachelor pad so as you can’t see in the photos, the shower has no covering just a glass shield and across from it is the bed. The accommodation location was perfect in Sassi and walking distance to everything. Also, when you walk up the road in a quick three minute walk, you will reach one of the main Piazza in Sassi. There are a bunch of shops and restaurants here.

  Disliked: Nothing everything was perfect. Someone might not like that it’s on the top floor of the building, which is about three stories high with no access to elevator.

  The Shame of Italy

  Disliked: If you want an authentic “shame of Italy” experience, this place apparently never left that period. I expected some musty smell from staying in a humid cave home, but the raw sewage smell coming from the kitchen and bathroom was something else entirely. Second only to the smell was the unbelievably uncomfortable bed. Add plaster falling off the walls, dusty nightstands barely standing, stained sheets, and a mildew-smelling kitchen towel. The guest crackers were stored under the sink between the trash and cleaning chemicals. When I complained about the sewage smell, guest services suggested it was coming from outside, despite other reviews mentioning the same issue. I’m not asking for the Ritz-Carlton. My dog is treated better than this.
