  Liked: Location, room, bathroom, espresso machine.

  Disliked: Room was a little cold at times and heat didn't seem to work. Neighbors a little noisy coming and going.

  My stay was delightful

  Liked: Casa Mosaico is in an out of the way location; I was only able to find it with the help of a local resident who accompanied me on the bus from Pisa. It's situated off a long flight of stairs going up from the main road to a main gate of the city that is flanked on one side by an old castle, an important historic monument that is now used as a prison. As there is no traffic, the house is tranquil, and my bedroom had a pleasant view overlooking the valley below. Each of the two rooms in my suite had its own bathroom, with a shared common room supplied with a small refrigerator and the means of making tea and coffee. My room was pleasant and spotlessly clean and was adorned on the wall over the head of the bed with glass swallows made by the owner of Casa Mosaico, an artist who works in glass. She had excellent restaurant suggestions: Osteria La Pace and Carabaccia. It should be noted that out-of-the way with respect to access has no bearing on proximity to things to see and do in Volterra, which is a small hill city; everything is close together.

  Disliked: Nothing could have been better. The weather seemed surprisingly cold for May, but the room was supplied with blankets in a chest. My one caution is that I would not recommend this establishment for anyone traveling with a lot of luggage.

  Liked: Location very good. Possible to sit outside. Room was very pleasant to be there, made with taste. Only the bed was to short for me and matrass was to soft.

  Liked: It was 10 minutes walking to the city centre. The landlady was very kind and nice. Clean

  Disliked: The pillows weren’t the most comfortable ones. There was a kettle but not enough tea bags and the bottle of water was almost empty
