  Disliked: Lots of tiny ants in the kitchen and the bathroom. Any food had to be kept in the fridge.

  Nice cozy apartment in quiet area

  Liked: It's a nice cozy apartment with everything you need for several days. It's located near the center, but it's very quiet around there. The host is very friendly and welcoming. There's also a washing machine sensible and a roof terrace to dry the clothes. I had a very good time.

  Solo Trip

  Liked: Location, facilities/amenities and cleanliness. Good communication from the owners/operators and flexible approach to allow an earlier check-in if the room has been prepared. Whilst the photo shows a single bed I did in fact have 2 singles pushed together (King size) with a mattress topper for extra comfort and to stop the beds from drifting apart. Comprehensive guide booklet and information leaflets in the room. Access to a communal washing machine that the operators respectfully request that you only use once per week and log your use (chart on the wall). Kitchenette was well equipped and everything you require for a comfortable stay. The private balcony is small but you can also use the rooftop area if you wish (clothes lines and pegs located here). Plenty of storage for personal effects with a wardrobe and chest of drawers. Good supermarket only 50m away and centrally located for all the sights of Old Funchal.

  Disliked: Social divides are widening in Madeira. The square outside the apartment is frequented in the evenings by those with mental health/substance abuse issues that some may find intimidating although I am not aware of any incidents. Outside the control of the operator. The operators state it is no smoking. You are asked to leave windows ajar to ventilate the apartment. Some evenings I could smell cigarette smoke that was drifting. Again this is really outside the operator's control and relies on guest courtesy.
