Fabulous
Great waterside location at good price
Liked: Location, gardens, pools and very helpful staff
Disliked: It was a little dated and could do with some modern revamp and the breakfast buffet also could be upgraded. I am sure this would pay dividends
Great location, lovely restaurants nearby
Liked: Staff in the restaurant and pool were great. The location is outside the main part of Funchal but has it's own selection of great restaurants and bars nearby. Pool looked lovely but we didn't try it as it wasn't sunny enough while we were there. Good selection of hot and cold breakfast options with made to order eggs (omelete, fried, scrambled etc).
Disliked: If you book this via booking.com be aware that rooms with a sea view are in the sister hotel Quinta Da Penha di Mar, which is a bit awkward if you've arrived at the wrong one by car as the oneway system means you have quite a trek. If you want free pool towels, you need to put a cash deposit (€20pp) at the reception and receive a card to give to the pool attendant, we were not told or offered this at check-in. We had a seaview room with a balcony but it was the worst one in the hotel (rm 210). Comapred to all the other similar rooms, the balcony was small and solid brickwork up to 1.2m, so you couldn't see anything except the sky if you were sitting down. Other rooms had glass/trellis balustrades.
Fine just for 3 days but wouldn't stay in that room any longer
Liked: Love the location, close to the sea and town
Disliked: Our room was close to reception and very noisy. Have stayed twice before and have never had a problem with noise. The lighting in the room is very bright. Would be good to have bedside lights instead of the main strip light behind head board. Bath towels very old and tatty.
