  Liked: Views from the room and from the restaurant are amazing, nice big green territory. Breakfast is simple, but good. It's not quite possible to walk anywhere from the hotel, so either car or taxi is mandatory. (we knew it, so were not surprised)

  Disliked: Furniture is tired, bit of mold in the bathroom and on the bathroom curtain.

  Liked: Excellent view of Funchal and the sunrise was better than the official website photo!

  Disliked: There were bugs and mosquitoes in the room, understandable as there were so many flowers and shrubs around. Difficult to drive out of the entrance because couldn’t see the traffic well, should install a mirror outside the entrance.

  Liked: The view while eating breakfast is amazing. The room was a good size with a good balcony to sit comfortably on. The gardens were lovely with little areas to relax and take in the views. The buffet breakfast is good although the cooked is average.

  Disliked: We took our vacation here in early October, some of the facilities were not in use, the Turkish steam room was closed all the time, the indoor poor in the 5 days was being cleaned two of the days with a robotic cleaner attached to an electrical cable stretched across the floor for hours on end. There were few staff available within the hotel, it took nearly have an hour to get a drink made at the main bar early evening, the TV was not receiving a signal on evening so could not get any channels, when it was reported to reception they noted it would be looked at tomorrow as there is no maintenance in till then. The rooflight in reception leaked when it rained, buckets and towels were left out to catch it all. The solid laminated wooden flooring in the entrance to our room was opening up at the joints and loose, the carpets were frayed and tired throughout in our room and in the communal areas. The sunbeds are uncomfortable with just a thin mesh covering, even with a toel over to relax on doesn't make it anymore comfortable, and the four poster beds in the garden area, the cusions are splitting, although usable. Basically the hotel looks a little tired, lacks staff and service to warrant it claiming 5 stars, it is just about 4 stars, although it does give value for money.

  Liked: Very quaint, stunning views and the pool area was quiet. Good wife and good in room entertainment system. Maintenance were very prompt.

  Disliked: Like others have said, needs a revamp, the bar for the pool was back in the main building as the pool bar was closed, very slow service at the bar and we had a suite but the living area lacked a luxurious feel with just 2 chairs, a cheap basic table facing a tv. Was also surprised that a 5 star hotel does not have any hair conditioner!
