  Pervasive mould – and a dishonest response

  Liked: nothing

  Disliked: The apartment had a powerful musty smell and visible damp and mould in every room, including extensive damage where the walls met the ceilings. The photographs speak for themselves. We left two nights early and paid to stay elsewhere. The handling of our complaint was almost as unacceptable. After initially apologising and promising a full refund, the host dishonestly tried to rewrite events: claiming our real concern was the bed size, reducing pervasive mould to minor bathroom paint damage, and falsely asserting that alternative accommodation had been offered. Only after I challenged this fabricated account point by point was the promised refund finally issued. A refund does not erase the condition of the property or the attempt to misrepresent what happened. I would strongly advise prospective guests to examine the attached photographs before booking.

  Staying at the Madeira Funchal

  Liked: Excellent views from the roof. Outstanding customer service. Miguel is professional and helpful gentleman, who made sure our stay is pleasant and in addition recommended place to visit and food to explore in the island 🏝️. There is place available for car park inside the property. So car rental would be great if confident on driving hills roads. The property is secure with main front door Locked always. Resident of property get a key for the main gate as well during stays. So no pressure on in and out time. Good value for money.

  Disliked: The building infrastructure and furniture was bit outdated. The bed was decent but hardly fit for someone taller above 183 cm height. Location was accessible by bolt easily, however it is difficult if someone choose to walk. Very stippy hill narrow road.

  Liked: Excellent location. The apartments are situated in a quiet and peaceful area, surrounded by banana trees. There is a terrace above the apartments with a wonderful view of the city and the ocean. Miguel met us at the airport and was always ready to help with any questions. There is also a private parking space right in front of the apartments in the courtyard. The apartments are not luxurious, but they have everything necessary for a comfortable stay. Overall, the price-to-quality ratio is very good.

  Great base for discovering the south and eastern part of the island. Can highly recommend!
