  Liked: Lovely, cozy appartment equipped literally with everything. Very clean, beautiful furniture. Great location, 3 minutes walking distance from public parking lot, just across the entrance of amazing park. Loved it. Recommend it very much.

  Clean, big, modern historic house centrally located, great amenities & value; air out upon arrival

  Liked: The house was an exquisite blend of old and new - a historical property but totally renovated on the inside and very clean. The location was excellent! It was quite literally across the street from the entrance to Terra Nostra Park, and a short walk to the main street of shops/restaurants/bakeries, as well as a 15-minute walk to the caldeiras (thermal geysers) in the center of town. It's also literally next to a grocery store and a 2-minute walk to a fruit store! The apartment was a great size for our family of four, with a well-stocked, full kitchen, and any necessity you may need (including darker towels to use in the thermal pools and make up remover in the bathroom). The value cannot be beat! Her instructions were very helpful for knowing where things were kept (e.g., extra blankets) and she did an excellent job communicating. Our host surprised us with some lovely local treats left on the dining room table - a big bottle of water, several local sodas, local sweet bread, and a small bottle of local liquor, among other things. The beds were comfy and the room-darkening curtains worked perfectly to give us needed privacy being on the main street. There were wall units for heat and A/C in each bedroom and the main room. There is also a lovely back courtyard we did not get to enjoy because of the weather.

  Disliked: There were only a few things: 1) I noticed right away upon entering a strong musty odor - the house is VERY clean, so it's not that. I think this is just a fact of life in April in the Azores in an old house made of stone. That being said, a dehumdifier running constantly would really help. It really helped to open doors/windows to air out upon arrival and to put the wall units on "Drying" mode running throughout our stay. 2) We had trouble getting the wall units to work properly, even with the instructions, and could not get the heat to go on. Luckily, there were lots of blankets. 3) Parking - while parking is free in Furnas, the host was very helpful in pointing out a free lot on a map beforehand, in addition to street parking. However, it turns out that parking is in high-demand and the lot was full, as was street parking anywhere near the hotel. The host lives above the apartment we rented, so it would have been helpful for her to be clear about how difficult it can be to park (and this was not even in the high summer season!!), and provided more active guidance or more options in this regard.
