Nice quiet times at the beach

Liked: The staff is very helpful and welcoming. It has a full functional kitchen. You can get some drinks at the minibar. The long sandy beach is just across the road. It's nice for some quiet times. The beds have curtains which is very nice for some privacy. Bus stop is directly infront to get to the center. There's just one line, so you cannot miss it.

Disliked: It's located far away from the center (about 4km), so make sure to bring some food or be mobile. Unfortunately the rental bikes weren't operational

Liked: Good breakfast, position very isolated but we loved that, beautiful view.

Disliked: There are many things we didn’t like. When we arrived, we had to wait 20 minutes to check in because the person responsible for welcoming guests was having dinner and didn’t want to stop eating. The bathroom leaks water everywhere, and there are no windows, so it becomes like a sauna. Inside the tent, we had bought some sweets to take home, and we ended up with the tent completely infested with ants. And the price, my goodness… I paid for two nights of camping as if they were two nights in a villa with a swimming pool.

A hostel in a lovely location but very disappointing from the point of view of how we were treated by staff and the gen

Liked: Clean, spacious room. Nice private terrace. Nice bathroom. Small private garden with hammocks and fairy lights at night.

Disliked: Staff didn’t seem to care much about welcoming guests or putting them at their ease. Staff seemed stressed and unwilling to answer questions. There was a distinct sense that perhaps some, but not all staff were either burnt out or too introverted for their front-of-house roles (however, to mention, one female staff member was particularly friendly towards us on our first morning and made a particular effort to make our breakfast experience pleasant which we appreciated). On the second morning the breakfast buffet offered only cold scrambled eggs with no option to order freshly made eggs. We were told there was no possibility for clean towels/sheets due to water restrictions on the island. While we respect such restrictions, in hindsight, this feels like penny-pinching when asking for circa €120 per night for a double room. The overall feeling was that this hostel puts its staff first, not its guests. We expected a convivial, friendly, warm atmosphere conducive to meeting other travellers and sadly this was very much lacking in our experience. Also, e bike rental is advertised but we were told that these bikes are out of order. It would be a good idea to remove signage about these bikes as it’s very disappointing being told that they’re not available. Another example of the “computer says no” atmosphere cultivated here. A pity, as it is in a nice location.

Liked: One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in! During my tavels I always stay in hostels, there were a lot of good ones, but Porto Santo Destination is, without any doubt, one of a kind. As soon as you enter the hostel and see Praia da Calheta right across the street you can already feel the magic of this place. It is very comfortable, clean, very well organized with all the facilities you need. The biggest impression about this place are people who work there (especially Marcus), who are so kind, friendly, ready to help you and do everything to make you feel at home, that you can only enjoy. Location is on opposite side od the port and centre, but that is just a plus, because in my opinion It is the most beautiful part of the island. It is quite, secluded, relaxing and there you can really feel the thrue atmosphere of the island. It is also perfect location to visit unique and wonderful Praia do Zimbralinho (the absolut no. 1 on the Island), Miradouro das Flores (beautiful viewpoint and the best for sunset) and Ana Ferreira Pico and Caves. There are all in walkable distances or you can rent a bike in hostel and enjoy visiting them. One of the amazing things is that you can watch beautiful sunrise just in front of the Hostel. If you like to walk along the beach you can be in city centre in just about little more then one hour or take a bus just in front of the hostel. For me it was a thrue pleasure discovering this place and I'm looking forward coming back one day again!

So grateful that PS Destination Hostel gave us a beautiful out of town place to spend our one night!

Liked: We were there for just one night. Porto Santo Destination Hostel is situated on the sleepy end of the island. The beach is a short walk across the dunes and close to the park. While the hostel is a couple of km out of town -- we were happy about that -- it was easy to get to via regular local bus and taxi. We were there for Portugal's first game of the World Cup. The staff made it a festival atmosphere! The staff in general were super sweet and helpful. Our en suite room for 3 was spacious and perfect for us. We were kindly treated to a dinner that was beautiful and delicious and accommodated all of our dietary limitations! We booked a short (independent) kayak trip from the beach that got us out to the cliffs and sea caves. I wish we had had more time on Porto Santo. Thank you so much!

    Liked: The staff and location

Disliked: The room wasn’t very clean, the bed didn’t have a sheet, just a duvet which I thought was quite odd.
