  Absolutely appalling - Please, please avoid!

  Disliked: Please, please, please avoid like the plague! I had booked to stay here for 1 night and I arrived to find the door did not shut properly. I contacted the owner immediately, with video evidence, and very reasonably asked if they would be able to fix it the same day or provide alternative accommodation. They declined both and very rudely said the only thing which would go in is the neighbour's chicken! I explained I didn't feel safe to stay there alone, or leave my belongings there, so I would have to find somewhere else to stay. They said I could cancel my booking so I paid to stay somewhere else and requested a refund for the booking at Vilas Horizonte but the owner had the absolute audacity to refuse my refund request!!!!! Booking.com have said they are unable to do anything because the owner will not respond to their correspondence. I am honestly horrified it is still being advertised. Please, please save your money and book somewhere else to stay. Even if the door had closed, it is opened by a number code and given the owner's response to personal safety I would question whether it is changed after each guest and also the lock on the door doesn't work (it is covered over by sellotape). There is also no door between the bedroom and living area and the door frame is being held on by masking tape! I had originally booked to stay at Vilas Horizonte because they advertise free private parking but it is actually just limited road parking so they are falsely advertising too!

  Bad sleep for a big price

  Disliked: Very hot. No fans or air con, and next to a galinheiro. Hardly slept. If you opened the window to keep cool the cockerels kept you awake from 5am onwards.

  Experiencing profound peace on Porto Santo island

  Liked: The apartment is well located in the center of the island's capital. It is a short walk to the beautiful beaches, restaurants, and the Pinto Doce Hipermercado.The apartment is large, bright, and well appointed. My wife and I (and our little dog Kimchi) had a thoroughly relaxing time on the island.
