  Something a little different in this charming traditional town

  Liked: Such a charming and unusual concept in Portugal which suits me. I love the location. I appreciate the helpful staff who aim to make your stay exceptional. The garden and the breakfast and the access to the sauna and tub - it all makes my stay a special one

  A taste of Japan in Portugal

  Liked: My stay at the ryokan was overall positive but slightly below expectations. The food lowered my rating drastically. I think this is a nice experience especially for those that are not able to physically travel to Japan, however there's a lot of room for improvement. The common areas: PROS: Very clean, no-shoes indoors policy, central and quiet location, free tea and coffee, there's the possibility to purchase some Japanese products. CONS: Invasive air-freshener scent, almost sewage-like. Cheap Ikea furniture doesn't look Japanese, I would have appreciated some more Japanese decorations. The Room (Superior double): PROS: Very clean, there were tatami floors in the room, yukatas for all guests, toilet with Japanese-style bidet, comfortable mattress on hard wood base, AC, many pillows. CONS: No minifridge, no kettle, no water bottles, very little amenities, noisy bathroom fan, we're provided only with 2 non-Japanese tea bags for our entire stay. Japanese breakfast: PROS: Japanese vibe. CONS: I couldn't eat egg and rice as they were sweet instead of savoury. Not worth €17/person. Japanese dinner: OKs: Sushi platter and temaki were acceptable. CONS: Gyozas and tempura underwhelming, the "yakisoba" were just simple egg noodles overcooked and again way too sweet, the chicken was too salty. Not worth €35/person. SPA: I didn't try it.

  Something special

  Liked: Totally unexpected find in the middle of the Historic Centre of Viseu. I loved the location, easy walking to everywhere and no cars to dodge. The staff went out of their way to help and make everything I requested happen. I liked the 'bijou' feel of the place. Very personalised. The massage and spa were welcome treats too!

  Delightful

  Liked: It was a lively property and delivered everything they set out to provide. It’s a charming hotel based on the traditional Japanese inn. We felt great there the rooms were great the beds (Japanese futton) were really comfortable. The breakfast was great! Last day I tried the Japanese breakfast which was great as well. It even provides a little spa to relax in the sauna and Jacuzzi all inclusive. The location is fabulous as it is in the historic city center surrounded by monumental and great restaurants and bars. Highly recommend.

  Lovely little boutique Hotel in the center of historic Viseu

  Liked: Great little hotel right in the historic center of Viseu. I recommend the Japanese breakfast. One of our group got it and the rest of use were jealous!

  Disliked: Sauna + hot tub combo is a bit weird, after sauna you really want to go somewhere cold. But I guess they have very limited space, so not many options. It was still a welcome treat after ninety kilometers of cycling.
