  Overall, a good hotel in a good location

  Liked: My welcome by Reception was first class. I had booked to stay one night prior to joining a Tour group in a superior room, a grade above the rooms offered to the group. I was given a 50% discount on the additional room rate to say in my room for the duration of my stay. It was a large room with good facilities and a view to Gran Via. The staff member provided me with a city map, suggestions about where to visit and also loaned me a MetroCard. For full marks to the Reception staff. The number 56 bus which runs along Gran Via to tour meeting points and the old city departs from the front of the hotel and returns to the front of the hotel at the end of its city Loop. There is a good quality, supermarket nearby and a laundromat within about 10 minutes walk. I convenient location.

  Disliked: The lifts are tiny and for a property that appears to host conventions and groups, that is not a good thing if you are running late for a deadline. At 7:30 AM, the small breakfast room was crowded and guests were required to wait for tables. At 7:50 AM the length of the queue was even longer.

  Modern, clean hotel with excellent staff and breakfasts - easy reach of the metro

  Liked: A clean, modern hotel within easy walk of the metro and even the football stadium (museum superb). Underground parking available, which worked well for us. Breakfast was excellent, particularly the egg station. A few local restaurants and bars meant that we did not need to go into the old town to eat, if we didn't want too. Hints Get a Bilboa card for easy travel, but don't put too much money on it. We left ours for staff. Look out for the Bilbao craft ale trail. A bonus for me:-)

  This hotel did not live up to the high standards set by the other NH Hotels which we have enjoyed

  Liked: Two employees were excellent - Aitor at the front desk and Marcos in the restaurant both showed initiative and friendliness while dealing wth difficult situations. The breakfast was quite good and the beds were comfortable.

  Disliked: the approach to the hotel was totally blocked by spaces reserved for buses. The parking is shared with another hotel and proved impossible for us to find. Aitor arranged for our car to be taken to the electric charging area. The dinner we were served was virtually inedible, and my husband’s fish was actually spoiled. It should never have left the kitchen as it had a strong unpleasant smell. Marcos handled the situation admirably and with composure. We sat down at the bar for a pre-dinner drink, having asked a member of staff if the lobby bar was the only bar. She said yes and promptly locked the bar door and left. We had to ring several times to get attention. Our bathroom was not clean and not in good shape with water and other damage visible. Finally our room facing the front of the hotel was incredibly noisy all night long with what I presume were clubbers milling around the street until 6am. I realize this is not the fault of the hotel but it certainly made our room uncomfortable in the extreme.
