Liked: Very helpful hosts
Overall, though, I had a good experience, and the positives outweighed the minor issues
Liked: The apartment was very clean and spacious, which made the stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Disliked: However, there was an unpleasant smell in the stairwell, and the bathroom was quite small.
Liked: The apartment was on the second floor of an old building (probably 400 years old). Apartment is small, had been renovated and is clean and comfortable.
Comfortable and good location in Laredo, beware of hot water situation
Liked: Clean, comfortable apartment with plenty of space on the Camino. Primary bed is very comfortable. We were able to wash our clothes and have them dry by morning.
Disliked: No hot water. Had a minute of hot water in the shower in the evening but thought it was due to running a load of laundry at the same time. But there was 0 hot water in the morning so no showers and dishes were washed with cold water. Check in required coordinating a time with the host to obtain the keys. I arrived at the property at the coordinated time and rang the bell multiple times with no answer. I waited on the steps for a while and then went back down to the street where I saw a woman waving to me from an upper terrace. I had rung the correct bell so shrug. Anyway, the hosts mom goes on to give me all kinds of instructions in Spanish and had to call her son multiple times to translate. Suggestions for the host: 1. Fix the hot water. 2. Make check in less painful for tired pilgrims. Printed instruction sheets are more useful than verbal instructions because we can use our phones to translate. 3. Washing machine instructions would be helpful for foreigners unfamiliar with the hieroglyphic symbols on European washing machines.
