  This was the best hotel experience of my 3 month stay in Spain. Highly recommend

  Liked: I recently spent 3 months in Spain, traveling from San Sebastian on the north coast, around the peninsula to Valencia on the south coast, and everywhere in between. I can say without reservation that my time at Cortijo El Sarmiento was the best overall hotel experience and one of the highlights of my entire trip to Spain. Yvonne and Carsten have created an atmosphere of simple, quiet luxury. They were the perfect hosts, and went above and beyond to ensure that their guests had a wonderful time. Carsten's breakfasts and Yvonne's wine and restaurant recommendations were amazing. They really made an effort to get to know their guests and arranged fascinating side trips to local points of interest. I felt more like a friend of the family than a guest, and truly did not want to leave. I look forward to returning to Cortijo El Sarmiento whenever I am able to return to Spain.

  Disliked: I loved it all, and found nothing I didn't like. However, guests must carefully consider the location and services before booking. The location is in a very quiet part of Spain. Although Mojacar beach and pueblo, and the nature preserve, are quite close, it would be extremely difficult to get around the area without a car. In addition, Yvonne is a great concierge and will arrange pretty much any services you require, but as a small bed and breakfast they do not have on-staff spa and wellness personnel. It's best to contact the hotel in advance to arrange services for your stay. Breakfast is provided; other meals can be provided on request but must be arranged in advance. The rooms are quite comfortable but do not have televisions. It's more "simple luxury" -- the facilities are quite comfortable, but the "luxury" comes in being well and lovingly taken care of, so long as you are thoughtful in your expectations and clearly communicate them to the owners.
