Where to stay in Mojácar: the best areas

Mojácar Pueblo

The white village crowns a hill and is explored through alleys with steps, flowerpots and arches. From the viewpoint in Plaza Nueva you can see the coast and the plain, and close by are the church of Santa María, the town gate and, further down, the Moorish fountain. You will see the indalo symbol on façades and in shops.

It appeals to anyone looking for views and quiet sunsets. The streets are closed to cars and there are public car parks at the entrance. At night the terraces and bars of the old quarter are relaxed, very different from the coast.

Mojácar Playa

Below the village runs a strip of coast several kilometres long, with beaches such as El Cantal, Las Ventanicas and Marina de la Torre. The Paseo del Mediterráneo links beach bars, restaurants and supermarkets, and a local bus climbs up to the village. This is the area for families and for anyone who wants to walk to the sand every morning. As the strip is long, check which stretch you are staying on: the atmosphere changes from one end to the other.

Macenas and the south coast

To the south the road hugs the Sierra Cabrera and the coast becomes wilder. Beside Macenas beach stand its castle and the Pirulico tower, and beyond there are shingle coves with clear water. The developments are quiet and you need a car for almost everything.

Best-rated in this area: Primera Linea Mojacar, with a score of 9.3 from 41 reviews.

Garrucha and Turre

Garrucha, to the north, is a seafaring town with a fishing harbour and fish market, famous for its red prawns. It has a seafront promenade, life all year round and local prices. Turre, inland, is a small farming village with country houses and cortijos. Both suit travellers with a car who prefer a less touristy feel.
