Not 4 star or even 2 star

    Liked: Bed tv

Disliked: Dirty sox left in room, paint peeling off bath, cold food, burger oozing blood, filthy tables and sofas in lounge, paid £124 for 1 night waste of money

Absolutely not a 4* hotel, incredibly disappointing

Liked: The property was a short walk away from Portaventura which was the purpose of our stay.

Disliked: We were a family of 4 and had booked a suitable room. On arrival at 11.30pm the room was only set up for 2 people - one double bed and only 1 towel. When I went to reception for help I was told there was no other rooms available and could I make do for the night - this is not exactly 4* service! I questioned where everyone was supposed to sleep - at which point I was handed sheets and told to make up the sofa bed myself. We were left making up our own beds at midnight with no pillows and not enough towels. This hotel is so far from a 4* I’m not sure how they’re allowed to claim they are! Food at the buffet was mediocre at best and one morning we were given paper plates to use! I have never ever known that at a hotel before! Plenty of drunk people about at night shouting and arguing. I can happily say I will never return and if you are planning a trip to portaventura I would recommend staying at the resort as the hotels there are much nicer

    Liked: Location and the food

Disliked: The booking was messed up the hotel asked for money again but couldn't confirm how much I owed even tho I tried to pay before arrival I had to wait in line 4 times to pay eventually being told my invoice wasn't ready. Our room keys got cancelled leaving us unable to get prescription medication, also the park passes were cancelled, we were given a partial refund on park tickets, this is not good enough but all that was offered, I would like a full refund for this trip and my party of 8 as we couldn't enjoy our holiday.

    Awful hotel - avoid

Liked: Avoid at all costs – a very disappointing stay We travelled to the Poinent Palace Dorada in Salou from 5–12 August 2026 as a family of three, with our six-year-old daughter, on an all-inclusive package booked through Jet2. Unfortunately, this was one of the most stressful holidays we have ever experienced, and we would not return to this hotel. Theft within 10 minutes of arriving The biggest issue happened almost immediately after we arrived. While my partner was checking in, he handed our passports to reception and took his wallet out of our backpack to pay the hotel tax. Within literally seconds, someone who had been hanging around the reception area took the backpack. It contained our mobile phones, iPads, keys, sunglasses, personal belongings and sentimental/personalised items belonging to our six-year-old daughter. It was absolutely devastating, particularly having only just arrived for our holiday. We appreciate that the hotel cannot be blamed for someone committing a theft, but the way the incident was handled was extremely disappointing. There was no visible security presence at all – just reception staff – and the person who took the bag was apparently able to enter and remain in the reception area unnoticed. We immediately reported what had happened to reception and spoke to a smartly dressed member of staff who appeared to be a manager. Unfortunately, we felt that nobody really knew how to respond and we were essentially left to deal with the situation ourselves. Thankfully, we spotted a Jet2 representative coming out of the restaurant, who was actually able to help us arrange a police appointment and deal with cancelling our bank cards and phones. The police were excellent. They took a full statement, provided us with a crime reference number and prepared the necessary report for our travel insurance. They also asked the hotel for CCTV footage. Astonishingly, the hotel had not even submitted the CCTV to the police, and the police had to go back to the hotel themselves to retrieve it. We were told that the CCTV was managed by an external security company, which seemed very strange given that the theft had occurred inside the hotel. We were never contacted afterwards by the hotel to check whether we were okay or to ask how the investigation was progressing. We weren’t offered any meaningful assistance or even a gesture of goodwill. Again, we are not blaming the hotel for the theft itself, but we are very disappointed by the lack of care and support afterwards. The room Our room was eventually ready at around 3pm. We had been told 3.30pm, so that was actually a pleasant surprise, although we had been waiting since around 10.30am. We had hoped that, given what had happened, the hotel might have been able to help us with an earlier room, but unfortunately we were simply left waiting. We were even told that we would receive a text message when the room was ready, despite the staff knowing that both of our phones had been stolen! When we finally got into the room, it was clean, tidy and reasonably spacious. However, it had a full kitchen area with a cooker, microwave and fridge freezer, but no plates, cutlery, pans or other cooking equipment. As we were all-inclusive, it seemed to be a huge amount of space being taken up for something we couldn’t actually use. Food and drinks The food was probably one of the better aspects of the stay. There was a reasonable variety and we were generally happy with the choice. As with most all-inclusive buffets, it did become repetitive over the week, but that wasn’t unexpected. There were themed nights, although we didn’t feel they were particularly well themed and there weren’t really any additional special food options. It was essentially the same main self-service buffet. The drinks selection was good, including a decent choice of cocktails. However, the plastic cup system was very strange. On arrival, you were given tokens which you exchanged for plastic cups at the bar, and you then had to keep that same cup for your drinks throughout your stay. Staff would wash them, but it still felt very awkward having to carry your cup around everywhere and remember where you’d left it. The sunbed situation is ridiculous This was our other major reason for not returning. If you search for this hotel on TikTok, you will see videos of the infamous sunbed stampede, and unfortunately it really is as bad as it looks. The main pool has an inadequate number of sunbeds for the number of guests. The hotel holds a huge number of people, yet there simply aren’t enough beds. The pool doors are locked until exactly 9am. Guests queue up beforehand and, when the doors open, everyone runs for a sunbed. What initially looks like an orderly queue turns into chaos within seconds. We heard reports of elderly people being knocked over and staff becoming involved in arguments with guests. Whether every story we heard was accurate or not, the fact remains that the sunbed situation was creating genuine arguments and tension between guests, and there appeared to be no effective system in place to manage it. We didn’t use the main pool once during our holiday because of this. Instead, we used the pool at the back where inflatables were permitted. But even then, we had to get up and queue at around 8am every day just to have a chance of getting a sunbed. That is not how we want to spend a relaxing family holiday. Even more concerning was the lack of shade. There were only around three umbrellas around this pool, meaning very little protection from the sun. With temperatures reaching around 35°C, there were families with young children and babies sitting around with virtually no shade. We asked whether additional umbrellas could be provided and were simply told there weren’t any. As a result, we had to take our six-year-old daughter indoors during the hottest part of the day, roughly between midday and 3.30pm. It was a real shame because spending time around the pool should have been one of the highlights of the holiday. Staff and overall experience Unfortunately, we found many of the staff to be unhelpful and uninterested, particularly after the theft. Nobody checked in on us afterwards. Nobody asked whether we were okay or whether we needed anything. We were essentially left to sort everything out ourselves. Even our experience with Jet2 at the airport was disappointing. We explained the situation to the representative when we got off the coach, as we had no phones or boarding passes, but we felt our circumstances were simply brushed off and we were told to go to the desk and have them printed. The police, on the other hand, were incredibly helpful and professional throughout. Overall There were some positives: the room was clean and spacious, the food was reasonably good and there was a decent selection of drinks. But these positives were completely outweighed by the overall experience. The theft itself was awful, but what really left a lasting impression was how unsupported we felt afterwards. Add to that the lack of security, the sunbed chaos, the lack of shade around the pool and the general lack of helpfulness from staff, and we simply cannot recommend this hotel. We appreciate that the hotel isn’t responsible for the actions of a thief, but there were opportunities to handle the situation with care and compassion, and we don’t feel that happened. We had looked forward to a relaxing family holiday and instead spent a significant part of the week dealing with the consequences of having our belongings stolen and trying to work around the hotel’s other issues. We definitely won’t be returning and, based on our experience, would advise other families to think very carefully before booking.
